Meet Jordan Chen of Manhattan Nutrition Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Chen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I originally wanted to work in a clinical setting such as a hospital or outpatient clinic. I was piecing together different part time jobs, and one of these included teaching heart healthy classes at a cardiology clinic in town. This eventually led to me seeing patients one on one, and I was able to learn more on the business side and how to bill for insurance, which I eventually used to branch off and start my own practice. In 2021 I created Manhattan Nutrition Clinic, where it has grown to a group practice. Currently, we work one on one with patients to counsel them on healthy eating, and our primary clientele is weight management, diabetes, and heart health, although we work with a variety of other medical conditions such as gastrointestinal issues, chronic kidney disease, malnutrition, etc. We are also adding a nurse practitioner to our team for medication options as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has had its ups and downs. Managing others is always a challenge as well as having to wear all of the “hats” in a business and knowing when to outsource things, otherwise your business can bottlecap. It can be a struggle to stay on task because I always want to do everything at once, but then also can feel burnt out at the same time!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently my practice includes myself and one other full time dietitian. We work one on one with patients to help manage their health issues, primarily weight management, diabetes, and heart health, as well as other medical conditions that need dietary interventions. We stand out because we are one of the few practices that accept insurance and work with patients in person, as well as will soon be offering medication management. Almost all of our patients have no out of pocket cost to work with us, which is a plus! We also offer metabolic testing and body composition assessments.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One other fun fact about myself is I am heavily involved in advocacy for the Kansas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which is the professional organization for dietitians. I am the Public Policy Chair, and tie in my knowledge about reimbursement and coverage for dietitian services to help advocate for expansion on the state and federal level so patients can have better access to care.
