Meet Jolie Wilkinson of Jolie’s Cut Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jolie Wilkinson.

Hi Jolie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I suppose you could say I have gardening in my genes! Both my parents and grandparents have been gardening as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until five years ago that I started diving into flowers myself. I experimented with a lot of different plants-various colors, sizes, shapes, and loved capturing their beauty. I had kept gardening a hobby until the beginning of the pandemic when it drastically changed my perspective. What made me most happy? How could I make a difference? The resounding answer was flowers.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have met some wonderful friends in the farming/flower community that have helped me along the way. With that being said, life isn’t perfect and things happen. Whether it be seed shortages, poor seed germination, rabbits eating your sunflowers, heavy rain causing tuber rot, or damage from Japanese Beetles…there is bound to be some struggle that comes up in the growing season! Farming is a lot of beautiful, hard work.

As you know, we’re big fans of Jolie’s Cut Flowers. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m an Urban Flower Farmer growing cut flowers retail and wholesale in Kansas City Metro. As a farmer/florist, I offer bouquet subscriptions, custom arrangements, and plant starts. It is my passion to grow flowers in a responsible way without using pesticides. The flowers are healthier, fresher, and last longer.

I love to use classic flowers such as Dahlias, Gladiolus, Sunflowers, Snapdragons, and Herbs. I pride myself on creating meaningful bouquets full of bright colors!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The Flower Podcast has been a great source for me. Erin Benzakein is the founder of Floret Flower Farm-her books are gold. Youtube has a lot of flower farming videos that can be beneficial to new growers!
