Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Rasa.
Hi Jill, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began over 20 years ago at Mizzou, where a single lecture on cellular nutrition sparked a shift from pre-med to Dietetics. I spent the first chapter of my career as a clinical dietitian, primarily in the NICU. Seeing how nutrients functioned as medicine for the most vulnerable patients solidified my belief in the power of nutrition.
After six years in clinical care and several more in corporate provider education, I knew I wanted to impact my community on a deeper level. I earned my MBA to bridge the gap between science and business, quietly building the foundation for my own practice on the side. When my corporate path unexpectedly ended in 2025, I chose to view it as a door opening rather than closing. Today, I’ve turned that long-held dream into RDNutrition & Fitness, where I help people achieve their healthiest selves through science-backed nutrition and sustainable fitness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any road worth traveling is perfectly paved, and mine has certainly had its share of hurdles. One of the biggest professional challenges has been the commitment to becoming an insurance-based provider. I chose this path because accessibility is a core value of mine—I want quality nutrition care to be available to everyone—but the learning curve is steep. Insurance credentialing and billing weren’t covered in my dietetic or MBA programs! It has required a great deal of patience, the help of a business mentor, and a willingness to navigate a complex system while I’m eager to get to work helping people.
On a personal level, the biggest struggle was the internal shift from corporate security to entrepreneurship. Balancing the responsibilities of a young family with the uncertainty of a new business is a heavy weight. For a long time, I leaned on the ‘safety’ of corporate benefits, even when my heart wasn’t in it. It took a literal ‘push from the universe’ in the form of a layoff to make me realize that the only person I should be betting on is myself. Finding the courage to trust my own expertise over a corporate paycheck was a battle, but it’s one I’m so glad I won.
As you know, we’re big fans of RDNutrition & Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At RDNutrition & Fitness, we bridge the gap between clinical science and everyday life. In a world saturated with ‘influencer’ advice and fad diets, I provide a sanctuary of evidence-based practice. What truly sets us apart is the dual approach: I am both a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). I realized years ago that giving ‘blanket’ exercise advice wasn’t enough; to truly impact longevity, nutrition and fitness must be integrated into one cohesive, individualized plan.
We specialize in sustainable lifestyle transformations for both adults and children. I am particularly passionate about pediatric nutrition. Seeing the rise of pre-diabetes and high cholesterol in children is a call to action for me. Whether I’m helping a young athlete optimize their sports performance or helping a family reverse alarming health metrics, my goal is to turn the tide against chronic disease before it takes hold.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is our commitment to precision. We don’t guess; we measure. I’ve invested in medical-grade technology, the InBody 380 body composition analyzer, to help my clients see exactly what they are made of. This allows us to track lean body mass versus fat mass, which is critical for anyone—especially those navigating medicated or non-medicated weight loss—to ensure they are losing fat while preserving the muscle mass essential for metabolic health.
Ultimately, I want your readers to know that their health is the heart of my business. We aren’t about quick fixes; we are about long-term vitality. Best of all, because I value accessibility, most commercial insurance plans cover our sessions, making expert-level care attainable for our Kansas City community.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My friends and family know me as a bit of a research nerd; I’m never far from a new textbook or a peer-reviewed paper. To provide the best care, I stay immersed in the latest science and surround myself with experts who challenge me to be a better provider and leader.
Some of the key voices in my ‘digital circle’ include:
Dr. Peter Attia: His work on longevity and metabolic health is foundational to how I view preventative medicine.
Dr. Stacy Sims: She is a pioneer in female-specific physiology, reminding us that ‘women are not small men’ and that our nutrition and training should reflect that.
Adam Grant & Mel Robbins: I look to them for organizational psychology and mindset. Building a business requires as much mental fortitude as it does strategy, and their insights on leadership and habit-building are invaluable.
Jar of Lemons by Christine McMichael: For daily inspiration, I love this blog. It’s a fantastic resource for wholesome, family-friendly recipes that prove healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or boring.
Staying curious is a core value of mine. By staying at the intersection of clinical research and practical application, I can ensure my clients at RDNutrition & Fitness are getting the most current, effective strategies for their health.
