Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Dunegan.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I used to be a big city girl living in Austin, TX, and now I’m a small-town girl living and working in my hometown in the Sunflower State! I am a brand specialist, designer, illustrator, artist, and yoga teacher. I own a branding & design business (JessDunegan Design) and co-own a yoga studio (Yoga State) with my mother-in-law, Connie.
I began JessDunegan Design and Yoga State in 2015 after moving back to KS to begin my loving relationship with my now-husband, Kyle. As a woman business owner myself, I want to see women entrepreneurs flourish and make their dreams a reality. This sparked my drive to create JessDunegan Design.
Through intentional branding, I help women tell their unique stories and feel confident about what they are offering to the world every day. I believe my love for wellness and art is the perfect combination to create meaningful and lasting impressions.
I have been combining my passion for art and yoga for years, and it seemed only fitting to create a space for people to fully express themselves and experience the benefits of a mind, body, and soul practice no matter what season of life they are in. Lucky for me my mother-in-law is also a yoga teacher with a similar vision, and Yoga State was born!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but now that I’m where I am today I see the struggles as an important part of the journey.
My intention was to help others be their true selves, and that’s the mantra I kept with me as I was developing my businesses. Now, I am working with my dream clients, and that’s what makes everything worthwhile.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a brand specialist, I am known for creating clean, beautiful, whimsical, feminine, and artistic branding and marketing for women-owned businesses. I put my whole heart and energy into my designs, and I take the time to get to know my client’s missions and purposes.
I believe having a background in wellness allows me to listen to and understand the needs of a client based on their values, and in turn, produce a final product that aligns with their vision. When I see my clients expanding their reach and actively using the artwork and marketing I have created for them to help them grow, I feel a great sense of fulfillment.
As a yoga teacher, I am known for creating a welcoming safe space for my students, and for my authentic compassionate teaching style. I am passionate about helping others find mind, body, and soul awareness through breath, movement, meditation, and healthy lifestyle habits.
In my many years of teaching and continuing education, I have studied a wide variety of yoga lineages, but my main focus lately is trauma-informed yoga and seasonal Ayurveda practices. I teach group classes, private lessons, workshops, yoga retreats, and special events.
Seeing my students grow and become the versions of themselves they want to be, my heart swells with joy!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think listening, having empathy, having strong values, being adaptable, and always learning something new have helped me grow my business over the years.
