Meet Jessi Bixler of Lee’s Summit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Bixler.

Hi Jessi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story has always been rooted in helping people communicate clearly, whether that’s a business trying to grow or a person trying to make sense of something hard. I spent more than a decade in marketing leadership, and in 2017 I started Bixler Consulting to give companies, specifically small-to-medium-sized, the strategic support they needed but didn’t always have in-house. What started as a one-woman consulting practice quickly became a full consultancy model, where I now manage a dozen or more clients at a time. From digital strategy and website development to paid ads to outsourced CMO roles, I’ve built a business around simplifying the complex, creating clarity, and helping people grow what matters to them.

But over the last few years, my definition of “story” expanded.

In 2024, I began writing The Story We Share, a memoir about the ripple effects of sexual assault and the long, complicated road of healing, for me and for the people who love me. It’s the hardest and most important thing I’ve ever created. I wrote it while running my agency, raising a family, and trying to hold both strength and vulnerability at the same time. Finishing the book taught me a lot about resilience, leadership, faith, and what it means to keep going when life pulls you apart.

Today, my work lives at the intersection of strategy and storytelling. Through Bixler Consulting, I help businesses grow with intention and clarity. Through The Story We Share, I hope to help survivors and secondary survivors feel seen, supported, and a little less alone. Both parts of my world—business and book—are tied together by the same belief: stories change things. Sometimes they change entire organizations. Sometimes they change the people who read them. And sometimes, they change the person brave enough to write them down.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. And honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be.

Bixler Consulting was born out of a really hard season. I had just lost a job, and instead of rushing into the next thing, I made myself stop. I took the time to rest, recalibrate, and figure out what actually mattered to me. What kept rising to the surface was this desire to help people—really help them—while also keeping my family at the forefront. My kids were still young, and I didn’t want to miss the small moments: seeing them get on and off the bus, volunteering at school, being present in their everyday lives. So I built a business that allowed me to show up for both my clients and my family in a way that felt sustainable and meaningful.

Of course, entrepreneurship comes with its own challenges—learning how to scale, finding the right clients, setting boundaries, and trying to grow without burning out. The flexibility people see from the outside is real, but so are the late nights and the constant problem-solving that goes on behind the scenes.

And layered underneath all of that was something deeper: I was also navigating the aftermath of a sexual assault and the ripple effects it had on me and my family. Healing hasn’t been linear. Trying to lead a business, be a mom and a wife, and carry something so heavy was incredibly difficult. Writing The Story We Share forced me to slow down and process what I’d been holding for years.

So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. But every struggle—career loss, rebuilding, motherhood, healing—has shaped me into someone who leads with more clarity, compassion, and purpose. The challenges became turning points that pushed me to create a life and a business aligned with what matters most.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my work, I sit at the intersection of strategy and storytelling. Through Bixler Consulting, I serve as a fractional CMO and digital strategist for businesses that need high-level marketing leadership without the cost or complexity of a full-time hire. I specialize in helping organizations get clear on the things that actually move the needle—paid search, SEO, brand positioning, and data-driven decision-making.

I’m known for simplifying the complex. My clients trust me because I translate messy marketing problems into clear, actionable plans they can actually follow. I’m hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to results, but I also lead with empathy. I believe the best strategy is rooted in understanding people—customers, teams, and the humans behind the brand.

At the same time, I’m also an author. The Story We Share is my debut memoir about the ripple effects of sexual assault and what healing looks like for both survivors and the people who love them. It’s the hardest and most meaningful work I’ve ever created, and I’m proud that it’s already resonating with readers who needed to feel less alone.

That work extends beyond the book. I currently serve as the Board Chair for MOCSA (the Metropolitan Organization Countering Sexual Assault), which plays a critical role in supporting survivors, educating our community, and advocating for meaningful change. Being part of that mission and helping guide the organization’s work has been one of the greatest honors.

What sets me apart is the blend of these worlds. I bring the same clarity, integrity, and humanity to my consulting work that I bring to survivor advocacy and writing. I don’t believe in BS, whether in marketing or storytelling. I believe in telling the truth, communicating with compassion, and helping people find the next right step forward.

I’m most proud that I’ve built a business and a body of work that reflect my values: people first, clarity over chaos, and the courage to keep going even when the road is hard. Whether I’m helping a company grow or helping a reader feel seen, the heart of my work is the same, using strategy and story to create real impact.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
If I had to choose one quality, it would be resilience, specifically, the kind that looks like getting up and doing the next right thing, even when you’re tired, unsure, or walking through something hard. My success hasn’t come from having everything figured out; it’s come from being willing to keep going, to learn, and to adapt.

Resilience shows up in my work as a consultant, where I’m constantly solving new problems and helping clients navigate change. It shows up in motherhood, where flexibility and perspective matter more than perfection. And it showed up in writing The Story We Share, the most vulnerable work I’ve ever done.

But resilience is paired with compassion and a genuine desire to serve others. That’s been shaped by years of community involvement, mission work, and walking alongside people in some of their hardest seasons. I think people trust me and choose to work with me because I bring humanity into everything I do. I listen well. I communicate clearly. I care about people, their stories, and their outcomes.

That combination—resilience, compassion, and a heart for service—has shaped how I lead, how I write, and how I show up in the world. It’s the foundation of everything I’ve built.
