Meet Jeremy Perkins of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Perkins.

Hi Jeremy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been intrigued by music and it’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! From doing vocal performances in high school, percussion in band, and listening to music in my spare time, I’ve always enjoyed listening to as many genres as I could.

I consider the start of my DJing journey when I moved to Kansas City in 2019. At that time I had recently graduated from college and was looking for a direction to take my life in. After making some connections, finding mentors, and dedicating time to the craft I made a pretty simple goal: play great music and keep people locked in.

What began as a side hustle quickly grew into something more serious as I began providing value to other DJ’s and building a personal brand through social media. Over the years, I’ve played everything from packed nightclubs to weddings and now stadiums, including being the game day DJ for the Kansas City Royals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A lot of my success, especially in the beginning, really comes down to being a valuable asset to other DJ’s and companies, versus being the best DJ technically or pure music knowledge. When I first started- my perception of what DJing was was largely based off of social media posts and videos I had seen of national acts and brands- most of which was not realistic or attainable.

One of the challenges was recognizing all of the different aspects of DJing, which extends far beyond “mixing” music or picking songs. Learning how to interact with a wide variety of people, achieve goals and deadlines, and managing expectations were things I had not considered.

Time management towards music discovery, library management, and local connections took up far more time than I originally had anticipated, but has turned out to be rewarding and lead to many great relationships!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional DJ and music producer based in Kansas City. I specialize in high-energy, open-format sets that are built to connect with a wide range of audiences—from stadium crowds to private events. I’m currently the game day DJ for the Kansas City Royals, where I handle everything from pregame vibes to walk-up music and in-game moments that help shape the overall stadium experience.

I also perform on the mainstage at Power & Light District for Chiefs watch parties, where I play for thousands of fans during some of the biggest games of the season. Both environments demand a deep understanding of timing, crowd energy, and the ability to shift gears quickly—and that’s where I do some of my best work.

What I’m most proud of is the level of intention I bring to every set. I spend a lot of time curating, organizing, and producing custom edits that fit the moment—not just what’s trending. Music production plays a huge role in that, whether it’s building clean hype edits, custom intros, or transitions that make each performance feel unique.

What sets me apart is how dialed in I stay. I don’t rely on recycled playlists or play it safe. I read the room, adapt fast, and deliver sets that feel built for that exact crowd, in that exact moment.

As things scaled up, I realized how important music production is—not just for making original tracks, but for creating edits, remixes, and transitions that make a live set feel unique. When you’re playing to 4,000 people before first pitch or trying to hype a walk-off moment, it’s not just about what song you play—it’s how you play it. Producing gives me control over those moments. It lets me tailor sound to the crowd, to the energy, and even to the timing of a game/making unforgettable moments at events.

Whether it’s creating clean, high-impact versions of popular songs or building intros that match a team’s entrance, or a packed dance floor, production has become a huge part of my process. It separates DJs who play music from DJs who create an experience. That’s the level I’m always chasing.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Staying consistent with preparation, crate organization, production work, and how I show up at every gig—big or small—has made the biggest difference. Putting in a considerable amount of time into watching and listening to other DJ’s also made a huge impact on my style and opening myself up to new ideas

Anyone can have a great set once, but showing up locked in every time is what builds trust with clients, fans, and teams like the Royals and Chiefs. It’s not about overcomplicating things—it’s about doing the small stuff right, every time, and letting that add up over time.
