Hi Jeremy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business out of necessity. I just had a daughter less than a year at the time and I knew I needed to find something I could do that brings in enough money to support us while having the flexibility to be more present. I got started by financing a truck and maxing out my cards to buy a small trailer after learning about junk removal from TikTok of all places.
I’ve been a white collar sales guy my entire career so dealing with trash was really out of my comfort zone. I’m really glad I took a chance at something that was completely new to me.
My business has grown significantly from all the relationships I’ve fostered for years in my previous careers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Far from it.
It’s as rocky as it gets.
Employees stealing, not showing up, equipment being stolen, equipment breaking, severely underbidding jobs, saying yes to a job we didn’t even know how to do but figured it out, people bad mouthing us, competition trying to steal my helpers or undercutting us, you name it.
We got through it though and I’m grateful for all the lessons learned along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of HOL Junk. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
HOL Junk is a full service, white glove junk removal company. We specialize in estate cleanouts & post sale (clearing out left over items by the previous owner)/pre-listing clutter removal to prepare homes that are going on the market.
We set ourselves apart from other companies by providing a higher quality service than most “Chuck & A Truck” operation while being more cost effective than most national chains you may be familiar with.
We’re proud to say that we are a locally owned and operated company – established here in Lenexa. We started with doing single item curb-side haul aways to full on house cleanouts. I’d like to let your readers know that we can service almost every client out there. No job is too small. We’ll make it happen.
What’s next?
We’re looking to upgrade our equipment from our current lineup. We started with a 5×8 utility trailer to now having 4 trailers to haul away items from mattresses all the way to grand pianos.
I’d like to add more dump trailers to the fleet to help our guys (& gals) be more efficient with their junk removal routes.
