Meet Jennifer Harvey of The Jennifer Harvey Team- COMPASS Realty Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Harvey.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
As a child, I moved ALOT, I was always packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice. My mom was one of the first female construction managers in Tulsa Oklahoma and we would sometimes need to live on-site in the new developments. I remember helping my Mom with construction clean-ups and preparing the new homes for the families. At that time, I had no idea the foundation that was building in me that would lead me to a love of Real Estate and new construction.

My father was a natural salesman and taught me how to negotiate and work with all types of people. When we finally made one of our last moves to Kansas City in 1988 my Mom and Dad managed a retirement community and we had to live on-site! At the time, I was so embarrassed to be living in a retirement home but it was one of the best experiences of my life. When I enrolled at KU, I was a psychology major and had aspirations of being a child psychologist, I met my soon-to-be husband, Chris, in my Junior year and decided I did not want to move out of state to pursue my master’s.

Sales fell into my lap and I became the rookie of the year selling copiers for Danka. I remember trying to fit a large copier in my very small Mazda Miata. I moved on to medical sales and was the youngest sales rep hired selling dental implants for Sulzer Calcitek. I loved the high-level negotiations and working with patients and Doctors but the travel was hard and soon I found out I was going to be a Mom. I had to make a career shift and leaning on my past and memories of how happy people were to move into their new homes and my sales experience I decided on Real Estate.

I started as a single agent in 2004 and formed the Jennifer Harvey Team in 2009. I have never looked back. I absolutely love working with buyers and sellers and coaching my team member to help reach their goals. Our team also works in new construction and my Mom was on my team until she recently retired at 80 years young. I am blessed to have been married for almost 24 years and have three beautiful children McKenna, Dalton, and Carter.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Real Estate can be a rollercoaster, some deals are easy and some are a lot more challenging. Making sure to partner with experienced lenders, inspectors, and title companies really help. I have seen a lot of different markets, I remember in 2009 when homes were not moving and you had to get really creative to make your listing stand out.

The current market has been a challenge as well. We have buyers that are having a hard time finding a home due to low inventory. We have been creative in going outside the box to help them find the perfect home. We have spent a lot more hours looking for homes and writing offers but in the end, making our clients happy makes it all worthwhile.

I have been in the business for 18 years but I am always learning and adapting. Making sure you are with a Real Estate brokerage that is also shifting and forward-thinking is very important. In late 2021, our team moved to  COMPASS Realty Group. This move has allowed us to work more efficiently in the current market and help our clients stay on top of the latest technology and marketing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We love selling Real Estate and we love Kansas City! We have over 65 years of combined experience and make sure to stay on top of the latest technology to help our clients. We work in all areas of the Kansas City metro focusing on first-time buyers, luxury buyers and sellers, new construction, and relocation buyers.

We help our sellers prepare their home to list making sure to utilize programs to help them with any updates needed with no out-of-pocket expense.

We are strategic in our pricing we understand the balance of pricing a home right to generate multiple offers and not leave any money on the table. We work tirelessly to make sure we find our buyers the perfect home and are very successful in multiple offer situations. In this market, it is essential to have a buyer’s consultation. Our buyers understand every step of the process and what they need to do to be able to purchase a house in a volatile market.

Working with a team in the current market is vital to make sure you don’t miss out on any new homes that come on the market. All of the agents on my team are experienced and are full-time Realtors. We work in all areas of the metro and in all price points. We are backed by the most innovative Real Estate company that offers the highest level of marketing and technology in the industry.  We are consistently ranked in the top 50 agents in the Kansas City metro and were ranked #14 last year in the state of Kansas. We pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional experience for our clients.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The current market is being fueled by low supply and high demand.

I think we are headed to a shift in the market in the next year, as interest rates go up it will eliminate some of the buyer pool and more homes will start coming on to allow for a balanced market. I think more people will shop online for a home but will still want the human interaction and guidance of what to offer or list their home for in the current market.

I do not think there will be a big bubble burst because homeowners have more equity in their homes than they did in years past. Whatever the market we will be ready with all the tools to help our clients.
