Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Campobasso.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jenna Campobasso. I’m the proud owner of Parlor 58 in Gladstone Missouri. If you’re native to the north area, you might remember our building as Gladstone floral. I had been doing hair for about 15 years when I decided I was steady enough to go out on my own. I wanted a permanent building that I knew would always be there and dedicated to my love of Hair. We purchased Gladstone floral in 2016. Spent a year completely gutting it and renovating it. We opened our doors to Parlor 58 the following year! It’s a family run building. My father-in-law is the owner of AMC graphics. And I have the other side Parlor 58.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Naturally, there were plenty of obstacles. Lining the contractors up was not an easy task. We had the roof off and the interior framed in with a special wood and it rained. We spent the night in the salon with beach towels, keeping the new framing dry. A little further along in our journey and we had our two air-conditioning units put in, the contractors to put the caging around them, were due to come the next morning, but somehow that evening someone spotted them behind the building and decided they needed them more. All in all it was absolutely worth it! Something about knowing I will forever have a building to create my passion in is so very comforting.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve genuinely enjoyed both other companies that I’ve worked for in my Hair career. I wanted something that felt more permanent though. A place I knew I would always have to create. A place that would be available to me whether business was slow or busy. A place that I knew would always have its doors open. My very own family run small business.
Opening the doors was so exciting. It was a little daunting, but we did have so much success in those first couple of years that I was able to hire on an assistant. Personally, growing another artist by my side has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in business outside of giving my guess their confidence back.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
We’re small and family owned so every single guest/coworker is special to us. I spend more time with my coworkers and guests than I do with some of my family members. I hold them very dear to my heart. I never plan on changing that. I always want to be involved in the every day business. It’s my happy place. Too many days away and I feel sad actually.
