Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Toussaint.
Hi Jeffrey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I ventured into photography last year right after my birthday during the onset of the pandemic in 2020. During that time, as many faced the unknown, I was furloughed and didn’t know what to do with my life. Not knowing how my rent and paying bills looked like made me extremely nervous and caused me an increased amount of anxiety. As the logistics of the furloughed status were being figured out, everyday of that week I had a tension headache constantly thinking if I was going to have job to support myself and my family. After speaking with my therapist, she mentioned I needed to do something to get my mind off the state of my work status. Photography was something I always wanted to do for years, but with work I didn’t have the time or money to put my effort into it. When I was furloughed, all I did was lay in bed. Until one day, I was just laying in my bed just watching the blades on my ceiling fan go round and round. I began to cry and pray to God for a peace of mind, guidance, opportunity, and courage.
After shedding my tears and finished praying, I went on my MacBook and logged into YouTube and I saw a thumbnail about photography. This was strange because I don’t recall ever seeing photography on my feed. I took that as my sign to start the journey into photography as it was something I always wanted to do venture into. I had all the time in the world do photography. From that moment of seeing the Youtube photography thumbnail, that sparked the process watching countless of hours of video content on photography and doing research on cameras, lens, and what it takes to start a photography business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road especially during the 2020 pandemic. It was really tough with the balancing finances to upgrade camera gear and start my venture with the photography business.
Learning something new is never easy and that within itself poses a challenge. Especially emerging myself into a saturated community of photographers and wanting to the quality of my work to be valued.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Whether it’s through product photography or capturing moments in someone’s life that is a visual ticker of the trajectory of their lives, the foundation of my work is to outwardly display the beauty of God’s masterpieces and conveying the creativity of others.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Don’t wait too long to start your dreams.
