Meet Jason Domingues of Jason Domingues Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Domingues.

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a photographer since i was a teenager, working as a stringer for a newspaper in my Rhode Island hometown. I officially started my business, along side my wife, Allison, in 2004, shooting weddings and family portraits. I take the photos and she runs the business. Over the years, we’ve photographed over 1000 weddings, and countless other sessions. I also spend a lot of time photographing musicians and bands (which is one of my favorite things to do). We’ve recently shifted from wedding and portrait work to focusing on conventions, events, headshots, and business branding, and we’re loving the fresh energy of new projects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall it’s been very smooth. We have never paid to advertise. We’ve always just gotten clients from word of mouth referrals, and we’re very proud of that. Of course, owning a business is not for the faint of heart. There are busy periods and slow periods, and sometimes it’s hard to separate work from personal life. But overall it’s been worth it. Working together (as a married couple) also has its challenges, but we both complement each other very well with what we bring to the table.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We focus on conventions, events for businesses and nonprofits (and even personal events…just not weddings!), headshots, and business branding. What we really do, though, is make photography feel human again. So many people dread getting in front of a camera — we get that — so our goal is always to make it easy and fun.

We’ve been doing this for over 20 years. Starting out in weddings is what taught us how to find real emotion and connection in any moment. Now we bring that same approach to the business world — capturing people as they actually are, not some overly posed version of themselves.

We’re known for creating images that feel natural, genuine, and full of personality. I think what sets us apart is that we care just as much about how people feel during the session as how the final images look. We always say that taking the photos is the easy part. Providing excellent service for each and every one of our clients, from first contact to final delivery, is what we place the most emphasis on. And it’s where many others miss the mark.

I also love photographing bands and concerts, and I’m proud to have had some of my work published in Rolling Stone magazine.

What I love the most is when someone sees their photo and says, “That’s actually me.” That’s when I know I did my job well.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
