Today we’d like to introduce you to Iva Zasadny Powers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a lifelong Wyandotte Countian and a product of the Archdiocese of Kansas City Kansas’s incredible Catholic school system, which isntilled in me a passion for serving my community. I spent 17 years as an educator, which was a labor of love for me and I cherished the opportinuty to pour my energy into the most valuable asset our community has: our children. When I decided to transition into real estate, it was important for me to pursue it in a similar spirit of servce, and that is what I do each day. While I work all over the metro area, my focus is on our county, and providing access to economic freedom and prosperity through home ownership. There is nothing that brings me greater joy than guiding first time home buyers through what can seem like a daunting process, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment in seeing the individuals and families I work with realize their dreams. In doing so, I am not only helping my clients, but also my community grow and thrive.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Real estate is definitely not a profession for the faint of heart! My success is dependant on my initiative and drive to succeed, and it requires a combination of skills and talents that spans a wide spectrum. I am my own marketer, accountant, administrative assistant, tech person and public relations manager – and that is aside from the communication, negotiation and customer service skills that are vital to the success of each transaction. For better or worse, I have what some poeple might consider and overabundance of energy, and real estate is a great place for me to channel that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Platinum Realty?
Platinum Realty is a company with character, which was super important to me as I decided which brokerage to align myself with. Twenty years ago, they pioneered an agent-first approach that differs greatly from many other brokerages. Platinum is focused on providing outsanding support and education to their agents – and thereby to our clients – while utilizing a compensation model that allows agents to keep more of what they earn. I always feel supported in my business and I am proud of what I have been able to achieve with Platinum.
What makes you happy?
I try to find joy in all segements of my life, but of course my family is a great source of that for me. I am blessed with three beautiful children and watching them develop into the unique individuals they are becoming brings me happiness beyond measure. My oldest daughter has Down syndrome and while I was initially apprehensive about the challenges her diagnosis might present, she has opened my eyes to the incredible beauty that can be found in human diversity. Through her, I have developed a greater appreciation for the little things in life that we often miss. Joy can be found in every moment, you just have to look for it!
Another thing that I am very intentional about is setting aside time to volunteer in my community outside of my career in real estate. Crosslines KC is an organization that is very close to my heart, and it serves as a safety net to those struggling with poverty. They offer a community market, a food kitchen, housing stabilization services, and health and community services navigation. It is truly an impressive operation and I take great joy in interacting with our clients, fellow volunteers and Crosslines staff each week. I would encourage anyone looking for a place to donate their time or money to come by and take a tour. I know you’ll be just as moved by all the good they are doing for Wyandotte County and our community at large as I am.
