Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Sears.
Hi Harley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My professional journey began 25 years ago as a Mental Health Specialist for a psychiatric hospital. While there, I served as a team leader to psychiatric technicians, led daily group sessions, and provided direct care to patients experiencing emotional, behavioral, and substance abuse problems. I then worked as a Youth Counselor at a Home for Boys and finally as a hypnotherapist, opening my private practice in 2002. I graduated with a Diploma in Hypnotherapy from HMI College of Hypnotherapy in Southern California. Additionally, I earned a Certificate in Wellness Counseling from Cornell University and a Specialization in Integrative Health and Medicine from the University of Minnesota. My training allows me to combine evidence-based natural therapies (including hypnosis, aromatherapy, acupressure, and herbal therapy) into a holistic care plan for my clients.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
While it hasn’t always been a smooth road, I’ve been able to operate a successful private practice for over 20 years. One of the biggest challenges is educating the general public about the benefits of hypnosis (you’ll find plenty of misinformation in movies and online), and despite what you’ve seen on television, hypnosis has nothing to do with mind control or brainwashing. During hypnosis, you are awake and aware and hear and remember everything the hypnotherapist says. It is a safe and effective treatment that has been the subject of many rigorous scientific studies to prove and explain its effectiveness. Hypnotherapy is now available at some of the most esteemed hospitals in the country, including UCLA, Mayo Clinic, Stanford Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, and many others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Some of the most common issues I help with are emotional distress, unpleasant physical symptoms, and breaking bad habits. Examples include anxiety, quitting smoking, mindful eating, excess alcohol, sleep problems, chronic pain, and gastrointestinal issues. I am most proud of the success stories that my clients have shared. Throughout my career, I have helped thousands of people achieve their personal and professional goals, and I have worked very hard to establish a trusted reputation within my community. Nationally recognized for my services, I have opened offices around the country, from Beverly Hills to New York City, and have been mentioned in popular media such as FOX, Entertainment Tonight, Reader’s Digest, Fast Company, and Ask Dr. Drew.
What makes you happy?
I find happiness in my family, friends, and work. My supportive and loving husband (Britt), my life-long best friend (Mary), my amazing goddaughter (Lyla), our adorable new puppy (Archie), and the clients who trust me to help them.
