Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Nigh.
Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for the event industry actually started about 20 years ago, when I worked for a catering company. I loved that job and got to learn a lot about different types of events. I had to leave that job after I became a mom and the hours no longer worked for my family. From there I just always enjoyed hosting parties or helping friends and family with weddings and decorating. Everyone had always told me how good I was at it. So after some encouragement from some important people in my life and reading the book “You are a Badass” by Jen Sincero, I really took some time to think about what I wanted to do with my life and what made me happy! It always came back to events and weddings. From there I just dove in. I started my Wedding Coordination business in 2017 and not too long after in 2019 I purchased my first photo booth. I started offering that service to my couples and to help fill my schedule. Now, many weddings and 3 photo booths later, here we are!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small business owners my journey hasn’t been without challenges. In the beginning it was slow but pretty smooth. I had to learn a lot and was faced with the normal challenges of starting a company and trying to grow it, all while being a single mom and working another full time job to support us. By 2019 things were really taking off with my Coordination clients and by adding the photo booth. I had finally hit the point where I was going to feel comfortable quitting my full time job and doing this full time. I had a plan that by Summer of 2020 I was done at the corporate job, and going to do what I love full time finally. Fast forward to March of 2020 and we all know what happened. My business, along with most others in the industry, came to a complete stand still with Covid. That was a very scary time! I honestly wrestled with a lot during that time and questioned if this was really the right thing for me anymore. I thought “If something like this can happen and completely stop my business is it worth the risk to continue.” But the thought of walking away after I had given so much made me sad. I didn’t want to run at the first big sight of trouble, and wasn’t ready to give up yet! It took me some time to get things back up and going, and I even did some rebranding but here I am. Summer of 2024 I quit my corporate job and have been doing this full time.
