Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Brown.
Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I first learned about sensory play as a preschool teacher in 2010. I loved creating fun sensory bins for my preschool kids. I saw how much they benefited from playing and noticed how engaging the sensory bins I made up for them were. By the time I had my first child in 2017, I was a stay-at-home mom, creating super simple sensory play activities for my boys by six months old. My boys are now six and three and love sensory play, too. They are my little testers and help create some of our products. Just last year, I decided to make my love of sensory play into a business.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but the journey has been fairly smooth.
It hasn’t all been easy. There have been a lot of hard work and learning curves. I just realized all of the behind-the-scenes work business owners have. It’s constant work and to-dos. I just went through my first rebrand, photoshoot, and hired a business coach in March to help guide me because I want InstaPlay to succeed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
InstaPlay is a sensory play shop! Sensory play is wonderful for toddlers because they are playing and learning at the same time. When children play in a sensory bin, they are learning/using fine motor skills, using their imaginations, watching how things happen before their eyes, learning to scoop and pour, and most importantly, having fun while engaged in play. I create sensory kits for busy moms to have on hand for their busy days! My kits have everything you need for a fun and engaging activity. Pour the kit’s contents onto a tray, and the activity is ready. Our kits make great holiday or birthday gifts too. Sensory play is a part of our everyday life. Our kits allow me to pull out an activity ready to go, so I can do laundry or make dinner. The kids may be by my side but are occupied and engaged in play.
What were you like growing up?
I am the middle sister. I have an older and little sister. I always teased that being the middle sister was hard, but I loved it and wouldn’t have it any other way. I have two boys, and my sisters have only boys too. Growing up, I was shy and a cheerleader in high school for two years. I graduated high school early. I’ve always loved children and had several babysitting/nanny jobs in my teens and early twenties. I’ve lived close to my family my whole life. Both of my sisters are just minutes away, as well as my parents. We have regular Sunday dinner’s together. My husband and I would love to move south, closer to warmer weather, but I can’t fathom being away from my family.
