Meet Hadiya Hill of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hadiya Hill.

Hi Hadiya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started baking when i was younger… watching my mom create every birthday cake for me and my brother. As i grew a little older i started watching How to Cake It on youtube which is where a lot of my inspiration comes for content and cake decorating.
In 2022, I started selling treats at Blue Springs South High School from freshman year to senior year i turned it from a hobby to my fulltime job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In 2020, my dad started his own restaurant in Cincinnati Ohio. In 2023, i put my own passion to the side to to help him keep the family business running…

The year i took off really put me back as far as momentum goes, i lost a lot passion and enjoyment when it came to baking. Something i told myself to bring it back was that even though it might feel draining getting up everyday and just doing it will eventually become a habit and the joy will come back.

Another struggle was trying to turn your business mindset off and still learn to have fun and be a kid, i started selling treats at 15. So instead of worrying about school, friends, and football games; i spent 25+ hours in the kitchen a week while still working a part time job.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a baker & chef.
I specialize in cake decorating and dipped treats, but occasionally i make candied fruit, dubai chocolate, cheesecake tacos, and banana pudding.
The foods i’m known for are my soul food cornbread bowls, birria and mac n cheese bombs, and putting Hot Honey on Everythingggg.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I like to watch Yolanda Gampps old videos to give myself motivation while baking.
