Meet Geté Williams of Geté Breon Jewelry Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geté Williams.

Hi Geté , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began as a young girl. I’ve always loved jewelry, accessories and shoes. All things fashion. Every time we would visit my grandparents (mom and dad’s parents) I would go to my grandma’s vanities and try on their pearls, costume jewelry, and their fine jewelry pretending they were mine (even though they were big and falling off).

Then as an adult, over a decade ago I attended a bead show with my mother and her friends, I had no idea what to expect, there were so many beautiful needs. I was introduced to a whole new world. I purchased a few strands to see what would become of it. That’s when I found a new love for jewelry making.

I started making men’s jewelry as well as women’s. Posting on social media and word of mouth, as well as host jewelry events in homes is how I got most of my clients.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I create custom jewelry and accessory pieces, it’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do, but it also comes with its challenges. Many clients come to me with a vague idea or inspiration, and it’s my job to turn that vision into something both beautiful and what I think they will like, all while managing expectations around budget, materials, and durability.

The process can be stressful, having to source the right beads, color, other materials, etc.,especially in the KC Metro area. There are NO stores that offer a wide variety of beads chains, charms and other findings for jewelry making that are of good quality and in bulk. Michaels and Hobby Lobby are quick go-tos for little things, but other than that I’m stuck with online stores. Also, making sure every measurement is exact, and ensuring the design is wearable for a lifetime. It’s also time-intensive, with revisions and adjustments along the way, and pricing custom work fairly while accounting for labor and materials can be tricky.

There’s an emotional weight, too, because these pieces are for a milestone, an event, birthday, whatever.. it’s the thought of will the client like what I’ve come up with or not, so there’s a lot of pressure to get it absolutely perfect.

Still, even with all the hurdles, the moment a client sees their finished piece, something that was custom made just for them, makes every challenge completely worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Geté Breon Jewelry Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
