Meet Gabrielle Schueler of Wichita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Schueler.

Hi Gabrielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My grandma Marge taught me to sew when I was a kid. She was known for sewing blankets, handkerchiefs, burp rags, and especially pillows. She had an entire sewing room in her apartment, including a wall filled with pillows. Anytime someone came to visit, they were sure to leave with a pillow. She was the most God-loving, honest woman I know. Fast forward to this year, my husband lost a button on his pants. My mother-in-law was showing me how to sew it back on, and I got the urge to sew again. The next day I went and bought a sewing machine and started going to work. An upcycled shirt idea came to life, and grace is sewn began!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has been incredible. I am still learning how to navigate running a small business daily, but the feedback and love I have received are overwhelming!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I upcycle and sew custom-made shirts by combining t-shirts or sweatshirts and adding flannel, patterned, or decorated sleeves. I use all materials and make hair scrunchies and dog bows. I am proud to have found something niche and made it my own. I plan to expand and sew even more new items in the coming months!

Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
The small biz community is fantastic. I have received so much feedback, advice, and love from other small business owners here. Don’t hesitate to ask others who have been doing well for advice. I think we all want each other to succeed.
