Meet Esai Moreno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esai Moreno.

Hi Esai, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In the summer of 2019, my brother, Leo Moreno Jr., and I, Esai Moreno, wanted to start a podcast. We were pumped to start it and then we calculated how much it was going to cost and then when we saw the price and our hopes of starting it shattered. Sadly, at the end of that summer, my brother was killed. When he was gone, it took a large chunk out of me and I went through a stage in my life where it felt like I was on autopilot.

Fast forward a year later (2020), I threw the idea to my sister, Mia Moreno, and my cousin, Marcos Garcia, to start a podcast with me. So that’s exactly what we did. Shortly after starting, we were getting amazing feedback on the quality of our podcast and studio setup, which was in my basement. That’s where the idea of opening up our own studio for others to use first came into our minds.

Similar to the dilemma, I and my brother had looked into it and it was going to be all too much for us to afford. We continued with just our podcast for about 50 episodes then we took what was supposed to be a month break, which ended up being about 4 months. This really handicapped our podcast, we lost our traction and by the time we started season 2, Mia had decided to not do the podcast anymore.

The drive we started with started to diminish, and we were very close to giving up on it. Something in the back of my mind was telling me to keep on pushing and continue to do these podcasts because it was going to lead to something greater.

Through the power of speaking it into existence, we now own a production company that creates podcasts for people and companies, we also do video production for companies and small businesses, and many more other media services.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most people that watch or listen to podcasting don’t ever really think about it, but a lot of time goes into making these podcasts.

My main struggle was not giving up, it took so much of my time from my family after working 40 hours a week and then having to deal with the back end of editing and social media platforms staying up to date.

Doing all this work and not being paid one dime for any of it, was definitely a struggle for me mentally as well. I would just stress over the time it took to produce these podcasts and wonder if it was worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been told I’m the jack of all trades, I’ve done just about everything to make money from selling knives, to cutting hair, but the thing that has stuck over the years is definitely graphic design.

It played a huge role in the quality of marketing we did for the podcast and saved us some money when it came to all the graphic work needed to get this company started.
