Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Rebecca Kisling.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The summer of 2022 was when it all began! My previous office suddenly ceased operations, so it was truly miraculous to have found a second generation dental space and to start a dental practice in such a short time frame. We opened our doors in August of 2022 and haven’t looked back! Family is extremely important to me, so naming my practice, “Kisling Family Dentistry” pays homage and deep respect to my late father, Michael Kisling, and his commitment to hard work and honesty. I am so proud to be a female small business owner in Leawood, Kansas, and we love serving this community of patients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding my rhythm as a first time dental business owner has been challenging but also rewarding. Dealing with insurance companies, vendors, landlords, etc. has been very eye opening, and I’ve had to make a lot of hard decisions and learn a lot of lessons about how the real world works. As a dental practice owner, I have to wear many hats, and just the day to day of doing clinical dentistry can be exhausting in itself, but now being the only dentist, owner, and manager is a totally different adventure. I am humbled and learn something new every day. However, I feel very privileged to get to be in the driver seat, even on the days it feels like a wild ride!
We’ve been impressed with Kisling Family Dentistry , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We do dentistry differently; we’re the kind of office you would want your mom to go to. No white coats. No judgments no matter how good or bad your teeth are. No sales pressure whatsoever and totally transparent about costs and insurance coverage. We’re here to educate our patients, give them options, and then sit back and listen and let them decide what they want to do. At Kisling Family Dentistry, quality dental care meets a relaxed and pain free dental experience. Patients can expect up to date technology and precision dental care, but in a friendly environment where music is playing and people are smiling and laughing. We’re good spirted, honest, and Midwest to our core in our values and ethics that drive our day to day care. Nobody actually loves going to the dentist, but patients also don’t have to hate it. We’re here to make it tolerable and help patients get to where they want their mouth to be. It’s very important for us to treat our patients the same way we expect to be treated when we see our own doctors.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to never give up even when you’re at your lowest. Owning a business has come with some major obstacles and professional challenges for me. I never gave up, stayed true to my myself and my values, and never let anyone tear me down (even when they tried)! I can honestly say it was worth all the blood, sweat, and tears, and I’m so proud of how much I’ve overcome to be where I am today.
