Meet Dr. Adela Casa of Sunshine Smiles Pediatric Dentistry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Adela Casa

Hi Dr. Adela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to the United States in 2003 from Albania. Started UMKC dental school in 2007. After graduating in 2011 decided to work for a few non for profit dental clinics. There I worked with a lot of children and sparked my interests in furthering my education in pediatric dentistry. In 20015 I decided to go back into academics and accepted a pediatric residency at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland Ohio. After completing the residency in 2017, moved back to the Kansas City area and worked for a group practice rotating between 5 offices. Being fast paced and non consistent made me start thinking of opening my own, more stable practice. Gardner was an easy choice for me because the small and close knit community reminded me so much of the city that I grew up in. The pandemic in 2020 delayed the start of the practice by 4 years but with hard work and perseverance I opened it 9 months ago.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The initial struggles were the language barrier and cultural differences. During my school and dental career I have grown my family. Balancing my roles as a mother, wife, daughter and dentist has been my biggest challenge. Some of the challenges as a business owner have been financial resources, managing workflow, balancing quality and growth.

We’ve been impressed with Sunshine Smiles Pediatric Dentistry , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small business that specializes in children`s dentistry. Our focus is dental education and providing a safe and positive environment for dental treatment. We want our families to have an established dental home that will serve them until they graduate from our office and transition to a general practice . We are the only dental pediatric office in Gardner and the surrounding area. We accept most private insurances and all Kansas state insurance. Our vision is to grow and be part of the community and help improve the oral care of the young and growing children. Our mission statement is to give individualized care based on the child`s specific needs. Creating a positive dental experience is our goal.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Our main focus is to achieve a meaningful impact for the child`s dental care. Changing the outlook of the dentist and the importance of routine dental check ups. Decreasing dental fear and also educating the families in how to provide the best oral health for their children, is what matters to my practice.
