Meet Diedra Lee May

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diedra Lee May.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began designing flowers when I was just sixteen years old… A young couple opened a new flower shop in my hometown & gave me a part-time position… They were so talented & creative and encouraged me to attend a design course in Lawrence KS. That experience inspired me to make a career in the floral industry. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the best designers in the area. I became very passionate about wedding designs. I love consulting with soon-to-be brides & their families and assisting them in bringing their overall vision to life. I found it to be an incredibly rewarding journey. In 2018, I decided to branch out and open a business of my own. Every Last Detail is an event rental boutique specializing in vintage furniture rentals, tabletop decor & props. I started out greeting clients in my home, allowing myself time to build up my inventory. In January of 2020, I felt it was time to take the leap and get my own storefront. By March, we were in a nationwide pandemic, and covid brought the event industry to a halt. By 2021, people were slowly getting back to normal, and by 2022, I found myself busier than ever and was able to relocate my business to a new location in the heart of downtown Saint Joseph. I greet my clients by appointment only, that way I am still available to design flowers as well. My shop is filled with a lovely assortment of pretties, eagerly awaiting those who are hosting upcoming events & weddings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The pandemic in 2020 was by far the biggest challenge for all of us business owners. I am so grateful I was able to stay afloat, stay healthy, and just use the time to learn more about what I wanted for my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have over 30 years of experience in the floral & wedding industry. Their is so much pressure to host Pinterest perfect gatherings nowadays, and I wanted to help people achieve that look, without drowning in expenses. Renting decor is an excellent way to cut cost, and not get stuck trying to sell it all once the event has passed.
