Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Kean.
Denise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a the CFO for a Kansas City, MO construction company for 26 years. 5 years ago, I decided to open my own company and start growing that on the side, while still working full time. I started studying the tax preparation industry and got another job on evenings and weekends filing taxes. I did that for 3 years and decided to add that to the list of services I offer. Then, in 2024 I retired from my full time job and decided to pursue my own business full time. My son is attending UCM to pursue an accounting degree and currently works at the office as well. So together we plan to grow it as much as possible.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I did have some struggles along the way. 2 months after I retired, in February 2025, my husband slipped and broke his leg requiring surgery. So, my tax year on my own was busy trying to juggle a growing business and taking care of him as well.

Processing payroll in those states and submitting the withholding tax, preparing W2s and submitting them as well. We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Going to The Lake of the Ozarks on vacation with my family is one among many. My husband and I now have a second home there and love it!
