Today we’d like to introduce you to Deeanna Anderson.
Hi Deeanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Thank you so much. I’m DeeAnna, I own Simple Solutions located in Joplin, MO but service the entire four state area. Yeah, you know, I never thought this could be my reality. It’s been a long, hard journey to stand where I am now. It’s truly been a lot of (literal) blood, sweat, and well, So. So. many tears. I was in corrections before I started Simple Solutions – I loved what I did at the time but when you become a mom, your priorities just change. My 12-hour shifts were consistently 14-15 hour shifts, I was always getting called in on my days off and emotionally, always taking the job home with me. I just simply wasn’t showing up for my family. My career was coming first. This became a reality to me whenever my daughter was getting ready to start kindergarten. I was working day shift at the time and I remember the heartbreak I felt after realizing that I would go in before she even woke up in the morning which meant I wouldn’t be the one getting her ready or taking her to school and I would be getting home after she was already in bed. I remember, I was a scheduled the day of her open house and the thought of missing out on so many of these moments and not being present for her during these exciting, short years was just not an option for me. I was lying in bed the week before school started in tears, wondering how I could make it work. Knowing there had to be a different way. I started applying for countless jobs that I cared nothing about so that I could show up for her. I left the jail, that I truly loved, took a huge pay cut, and started working a M-F, 9-5. This was of course what I thought I wanted, I could take her to school and be home in the evenings and weekends but quickly realized, now I wasn’t showing up for myself. I was clocking in everyday to a job I hated. I was so unhappy and constantly trying to find ways to fill the void. You know, this was around the time of Covid. So life in general was just isolating. Everyone was home and organization kind of blew up on tiktok. And the home edit came out and EVERYONE was talking about it. I kind of thought, Interior decorating and organization has always been a huge passion of mine. Maybe this could be something? So without a single thought, I randomly started sharing projects I did in my personal home on social media. This quickly started getting attention, and I was practically a business owner overnight. The demand was so high, I jumped in head first and just never looked back. I had no idea what I was doing and two and a half years later, I’m still learning every day, but making that jump was the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself and for my family.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ooof. I’d be lying if I said it’s been a smooth road. I don’t think any journey is free of obstacles. I had to learn to build my plane mid-air to keep going. The constant uncertainty of being self-employed is a struggle on its own. I’ll spare you all the details, but It’s never easy and comes with new obstacles every day, although, it IS rewarding and I enjoy the challenge and thrive on opportunities to better myself and grow my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
Of course! I specialize in interior decorating, home organization, and seasonal decor/Christmas tree installs. I work with clients from a different walk of life, every single day. Some days, I’m celebrating a first-time home buyer and we’re sketching plans to make it their dream home. some days, I’m creating a gorgeous luxury closet for a client who has a love for clothes, making all the Christmas miracles come true through a 15ft tree and some days, I hold clients as they tell me they lost a child and don’t know how to go through their belongings or encouraging clients that feel like they aren’t worthy because depression has taken over their home. I know this is exactly what I was called to do and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve others.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
Definitely. I couldn’t do any of this without all the support my friends, family, and clients give daily. It truly is the fuel that keeps me going.
