Meet David Nigro of Nigro’s Western Store #1 – The Original

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Nigro. They and their team shared their story with us below:

The Original Nigro’s Western Store is the longest family-run western store in Kansas City. Founded in 1956 by Tony Nigro Sr, authentic western wear and tack brought in customers from all over the Midwest. For three generations and more than 60 years, Nigro’s has sold high-quality boots, hats, and quality western wear from the most reputable manufacturers. From the moment you walk in the doors, you will feel like family. Owners David Sr, Anita, and their children Serena and David Jr. are ready to help create a custom style you love while receiving the finest quality and best customer service. David Jr. creates a one-of-kind personalized experience by shaping your very own cowboy hat or designing a pair of Nigro’s exclusive Rios of Mercedes or Anderson Bean cowboy boots. There’s something for everyone, from Wrangler jeans and pearl snap shirts to women’s boutiques and men’s dress shirts.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We like to consider ourselves a household name, and that is because of our fantastic community. We have had our ups and downs like any business over the past 60 years, but our loyal customers across multiple generations continue to support us. For that, we are incredibly grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, could you tell us a bit more about your business?
I’ve owned this business with my wife, Anita, for over 40 years. We specialize in Western lifestyle clothing, boots, and accessories for the whole family. We have a variety of clothing and boots for high-end customers or working men or women, whether on the farm or in the city. Our son David is one of the most talented hat shapers in the area. Customers come from far and wide to get a custom fit. We carry brands like Wrangler, Ariat, Cinch, Justin Boots, Rios of Mercedes, Anderson Bean, Thorogood, Stetson, Serratelli, Rodeo King, and Resistol.

Do you have any big plans?
We are starting our 3rd generation of workers by bringing in our son and daughter. We hope to see our store stay a Landmark in Kansas City for years.
