Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Corwin.

Daniel Corwin

Hi Danny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started learning to make guitars in 2002 at Midwest Guitar Repair and Building School in St. Louis. After graduation, I moved back home to Topeka, KS, where I played in bands and worked in music stores, teaching private guitar lessons and honing my guitar repair techniques. When my wife and I started having kids in 2008, I became a stay-at-home dad and worked on guitars during nap time. As the kids grew, so did my business! So by the time my kids were in kindergarten, Corwin Guitar Co. had become a full-time job.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most challenging part for me has been learning to use new technology. A couple of years ago, I began to utilize CNC automation as part of my build process. Drawing three-dimensional guitars on a computer is very complicated and time-consuming. I remember getting frustrated when I’d been at the computer for 10 hours, working on a design I probably could’ve carved by hand in less than one hour. But in the end, CNC machining improves accuracy and consistency, which ensures the guitars are the best they can be.

We’ve been impressed with Corwin Guitar Co., but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Corwin Guitar Co. is a custom guitar company specializing in making electric and acoustic guitars to each individual’s specifications. I enjoy helping each player find the right combination of tonewoods, hardware, and electronics to make the guitar of their dreams a reality. We also feature a full-service guitar repair shop that can handle anything from smaller jobs like replacing strings and setting action, to complete vintage restorations and refinishing. I’m known for my discerning ear and attention to detail.

What does success mean to you?
I define Corwin Guitar Co’s success as helping people make the most of their guitars. Whether transforming a standard guitar into one that plays and sounds like a high-end instrument or collaborating with a customer to create a custom guitar that maximizes a player’s enjoyment of music, their satisfaction is gratifying.
