Meet Corey Phillips of Trilogy Sports and Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Phillips.

Hi Corey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts with a lifelong passion of not wanting to live the unhealthy lifestyle that my family members previously lived before me. I decided, when I went to play college football, that I would most definitely become a personal fitness coach and an elite sports performance instructor. My passion became a reality when the hurt from the passing away of my mother took place in 2002. I also graduated from the University of Central Missouri that same year. I decided that I really needed to leave St. Louis Missouri and start fresh after the death of my mother in 2002. This is where it started concerning my teaching and personal training journey in Kansas City Missouri. Even then, my mindset was to keep sites on a goal I had since 1995 in which I would coach and teach for about ten years while I worked on my dream of promoting lifelong health and proper aspects of living a healthy life. During the course of building my dream, I had the opportunity to teach in a couple of alternative schools for about seven years and serve as head football and boys and girls track coach for a while.

After finally going full-time in 2010, my company Trilogy Sports made some great strides in acquiring a key client in Shane Ray, who was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. Recently, I was selected to be a part of a very distinguished opportunity for up and coming entrepreneurs in the Kansas City area. ScaleUp KC, which is sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation, UMKC, and SBDC, selects small businesses that are upcoming to equip them for real growth potential. Trilogy is currently offering a very unique style of fitness services in the metro area, providing sports performance training for athletes who are attending premiere division 1 universities and promoting power fitness plans online globally through the Trilogy App! One of the greatest things that we are doing at this moment is partnering with some strategic partners through our Pro-Talk Mentorship platform to reach troubled youth, provide hope for youth from broken homes, and bring real unity that dispels racial inadequacies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can surely say that this journey has not been a smooth road, nor an easy walk! Some of the struggles along the way include having other businesses that we had partnered with try to derail our business and take over our business model and our clients. I had, at one point, become homeless. My wife and children had to go through the agony of supporting my dreams even though it looked very dim at first. One of the biggest struggles I suffered was when I lost my business partner in the gym where he suffered a heart attack on the gym floor. That day was unforgettable because I remember all the help from clients who were there that day, as well as having to call my partner’s family to inform them that their dad/husband was no longer alive. That transition made me stronger, but there was a lot of hurts and reconfiguring that lasted for a little while.

As you know, we’re big fans of Trilogy Sports and Fitness, Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
A unique aspect about Trilogy Sports is that we are among the only fitness companies that are able to offer its clients an opportunity to support healthy initiatives in our network of humanitarian foundations and receive 100% deduction at the year’s end for their contribution.

We specialize in reconnecting youth, families, and communities to real health solutions through our mind, body, spirit approach to overall wellness and performance.

What I believe that sets Trilogy Sports and Fitness apart is: we are utilizing the Trilogy App as a platform to remove the excuses of why we can be healthy and cancel the notion of believing that we can’t find help along our journeys. Through the app, we exclusively place our target clients in successful situations that provide nutritional coaching, health plan development, and mentorship that include both current and former professional athletes who share the same vision of being an instrument of change for individuals who wouldn’t normally have access to this level of support!
