Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Brown.
Hi Corey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had a love for storytelling. I love to listen, read, tell and watch stories in all their forms. I believe this is how we make connections and relate to one another. In business, I believe it is a vital marketing piece to connect with the right people in your community.
My love for community and local businesses came from growing up in small-town Iowa, watching my mom be an entrepreneur. She owned a small Hallmark store where she worked hard to provide a place in town where people could shop local, socialize, and entice traffic to the small downtown area. In fact, both of my parents have always been entrepreneurs, modeling for me that you can go after whatever lights up your life.
My love for photography began when I was in college and I watched my first image come to life in the darkroom. I was hooked on the idea of freezing time and capturing a moment forever. As I ventured out further into the profession, I discovered that I loved the entire photography process. From session planning to the camera settings, from interacting with people to the post-processing, and all the way to the final gallery delivery – I loved it all.
Like many, I started my business taking photos of friends and family while building my portfolio. From there, I grew to sessions with friends of friends and the occasional mini session weekend. During these early years of growth, I got married, had two daughters and moved back and forth from Springfield, MO to Kansas City, MO for my husband’s job, moving my service-based business three times. I stuck with it because I loved it and it allowed my husband and I the freedom to juggle schedules, both work and raise our daughters together. I have endured the pandemic that shut my doors completely and was blessed enough to come out on the other side, still in business. I have learned that photography beautifully combines my love for people and my passion for working with and supporting other businesses while fulfilling my thirst for ongoing creativity. The past couple of years, I have narrowed my niche down to what I feel I serve best, which is branding photography and working primarily with other women business owners, I have definitely taken many roads over the years in this profession, but I have always known that photography and storytelling would be my vehicle.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
– Geographically moving my service business three times was very difficult on my growth.
– 2020/Covid-19/Pandemic closed my doors completely and was hard on my business.
– Doing it all on my own, being a one-woman show has been difficult in certain seasons, but I keep showing up because I love it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a natural light photographer focusing on branding imagery for women business owners. I offer customized brand photography that provides the content your business needs to grow. I am known for my laid-back and silly approach. I like to have fun and my sessions involve shenanigans that take you outside of your comfort zone and lots of laughter. I am proud of the work I have done with businesses in my community. I believe my process is unique to business owners and is so much more than just a photo session. I will help you organize your goals and create custom visuals to meet them, including ideas for social posting. My goal is to fuel your business with the visual content you need to elevate your brand, tell your story, and inspire your audience.
What makes you happy?
I believe that I am responsible for my own happiness. Sources that I lean on regularly to fuel my happiness include my family, having adventures and traveling, staying active, meditating, reading, time with friends and engaging with my community through dining and recreation.
