Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Smith.
Hi Charity, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I founded Legacy Massage in 2015, building the business through grit, perseverance, and a deep belief in the work—even through the inevitable ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Originally from southern Utah, I found my way to Kansas City and quickly fell in love with the people and the strong sense of community, which made it feel like home.
My work focuses on Structural Integration, a hands-on approach that realigns the body by working with the fascia to reduce pain, improve mobility, and help clients move with greater ease. I truly love what I do and feel incredibly grateful for the amazing clients I serve and for a staff whose skill and caring hearts make Legacy Massage what it is.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most small businesses, my journey has included plenty of ups and downs. From the moment I graduated massage school, I knew I wanted to specialize in Structural Integration, but finding the right path wasn’t easy. At the time, the most direct route meant relocating to Colorado for Rolfing school, which wasn’t the right fit for me.
Instead, I stayed committed to the vision and spent several years searching for the right opportunity. Eventually, I found a mentor who helped shape my skills and understanding of Structural Integration, and I trained closely under their guidance for several years. Today, I’m grateful to be in a position where I can pass that knowledge on—teaching and mentoring other therapists and helping strengthen and elevate the massage therapy community as a whole.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We work with clients experiencing a wide range of concerns, including scar therapy, jaw pain, chronic pain, and even sinus issues. Through Structural Integration, we’re able to address areas and patterns in the body that many traditional massage approaches don’t typically focus on. We also have a deep passion for perinatal care, supporting women throughout pregnancy and offering in-home postpartum sessions to aid recovery during that important transition.
Structural Integration is a form of bodywork that realigns the body for improved posture, easier movement, and reduced pain. It works with the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding the muscles—to release tension, increase mobility, and bring the body back into balance. Over time, stress, injuries, and repetitive habits create compensations in the body, and Structural Integration helps unwind those patterns so movement feels more natural and comfortable.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Kansas City is the people. They’re genuine, caring, and truly show up for one another. There’s a strong sense of community here—people really come together—and even as someone who isn’t particularly into sports, Kansas City has a way of making you feel included. There’s an energy here that’s hard not to love.
If there’s one thing I miss, it’s easy access to the ocean or the mountains. That said, it just gives me a great excuse to travel and explore when I need that reset.
