Meet Camila Colominas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Colominas.

Hi Camila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
For as long as I’ve known I have always loved music. It started out me being a little three-year-old singing song at church. My mom put me into a church choir, and that was the first time I realized I could sing. From then on I’ve always pursued music. When I was around the age of 8, I started a YouTube channel where I would post videos of myself singing songs I made up or songs I changed the lyrics to.

I took 2 years of vocal lessons to really figure out how to control my voice. Although I have always been surrounded by this lifestyle believe it or not I get super nervous when I have to record or perform. I recorded for the first time in a studio in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit. I met so many amazing Kansas City artists that day, and today they are still my best friends.

I recorded a cover to the song Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo. I got so many amazing compliments and support from this video that I finally decided I wanted to record my own music!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If anyone says following your dreams is a smooth road, they’re probably lying.

It can get discouraging when you don’t receive the feedback or support you were hoping for. There are times that I will pay for a studio session and the song I’m recording isn’t turning out the way I was wanting it to.

Music is such a bumpy road, you have a lot of hits and a lot of misses. I always try to keep in mind that not everyone is going to like every song you release, but that doesn’t mean you just give up! There is always someone’s life or heart that you are touching.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter. Not only does pursuing music feel like my job but it is also my passion and therapy. Nothing feels better than having a long day and getting to sit down and write lyrics that I hold so close to my heart for my songs. I dropped my first single ‘Afterhours’ in October 2021, which I recorded with producer Sleepwvlker who is also from Kansas City.

After seeing all of the love and support, I received from something I poured my heart into and was so nervous about showing to the world, I realized that this was a dream of mine that I really can make come true. My friend Raelee and I started working on our album ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ in mid-November. We worked on this project with producer Bergotti over the next several months.

We wanted to create a female combined R&B album that we had not seen, we wanted to bring something different to Kansas City, that everyone could enjoy listening to. Our single ‘Bad Habit’ on the album received 8,000 streams overnight and is now sitting at 12,000. This was a big deal for me as a small artist, it was like my first milestone.

We dropped this album on Valentine’s Day this year and have received so much amazing love and support. I am now working on my personal EP that I am looking forward to dropping this year, and I am hoping to perform in a couple of small shows throughout Kansas City, and Missouri!
