Today we’d like to introduce you to Cami Wagers.
Hi Cami, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I spent 25 years in the restaurant industry, working as a server, cook, bartender, manager, and owned my own cafe for 7 years. After the birth of my third child, I sold it, took a short time off to care for my newborn and then decided to work for others again, going back to the demanding world of food service.
I found it hard to find fulfillment working in the same field but having already reached the ultimate goal of owning my own cafe. I started looking for something different; something that fit who I was: I needed something that challenged me; where I could work with people and serve the community; and I needed something flexible that would allow me to be present while raising my kids. At the time, they were 17, 15, and 5!
I remembered an incident that happened a few years earlier when I had been approached by a well-established insurance agent; he heard me talking to a customer and was impressed with my personable nature and ability to connect with the customers. He asked if I had ever thought about working in insurance. It had crossed my mind before but, to be honest, I was intimidated by it. I saw these agents with their face on a big billboard, and they seemed to have everything together and be so smart! My life felt really crazy and I didn’t think I would be able to keep all that together!
I decided to make the change, but in a less bold way- I went work for an amazing State Farm agent and learned the field from her. I loved the office. I loved my coworkers, but after some time, I realized there was a “cap” on my growth there. As I became more confident, I started to feel a pull from my entrepreneurial spirit. I loved what I was doing but I really craved more direct contact with the people I was serving.
I wanted to make sure I represented a quality company with a proven track record. I spent hours researching insurance companies. I wanted to find a company that was fair with their ratings, were paying their claims, and appreciating their clients. I found COUNTRY Financial. According to reviews and industry rankings, they did all these things.
What really got my attention was their #1 Forbes ranking for life insurance. Life insurance is something I am very passionate about. My fiancé owns a funeral home business with his family and so I see the direct effects on the families when they lose a loved one that was not insured. I have also seen the positive impacts of a plan that protects their family’s financial future. Life insurance does not alleviate the pain someone experiences when a loved one passes, but it does give the families an opportunity to take the time they need to grieve before having to return to work for financial reasons. It also prevents the tragic stories we read in go fund me campaigns.
It was ironic, because as I was creating my resume to send to COUNTRY, a recruiter from COUNTRY reached out to me. I went to several interviews, presented a business plan, and was then offered an agency in Platte City, Missouri
It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and has greatly impacted the trajectory of my life and the life of my children. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity they have given me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am very fortunate to represent a company that supports their agents the way COUNTRY does. The training was phenomenal. Also, I couldn’t ask for better agents to work alongside; better corporate employees to work with; or better leadership.
However, with any career change, it has been a learning experience. At times it has been overwhelming. There is a lot to manage when running a business. I was fortunate to have inherited a small book of business so there have been clients to service, along with trying to grow my book of business and get established. There is also continuing education and staying on top of industry trends that can be time consuming.
I quickly realized that by creating systems and using consistent processes, I could manage the workload and all the different facets of business ownership, allowing for more time to focus on the needs of my clients and future clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of Country Financial Cami Wagers Agency. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
For 100 years COUNTRY Financial has been helping individuals and their families achieve financial security, while enriching the lives in the communities we serve. We currently offer financial security products and services in 19 states, including Missouri and Kansas.
I hold a life/health license, as well as a property/casualty license in both Kansas and Missouri. Through these licenses, and the products offered through COUNTRY, I am able to provide life insurance, small business/commercial, auto, home, and disability insurances, along with Worker’s Compensation coverage in Missouri.
I am very proud of our outstanding rankings, including the highest rating through Weiss, that is only awarded to 1% of carriers; an A+(Superior) ranking from AM Best, where we have held the ranking for 90 consecutive years; our Forbes ranking, placing us in the top 10 for auto and home while taking the #1 spot for life insurance in 2024! We were the only company to rank in the top 10 for all three major lines of business.
As an agent, I work towards helping clients get the coverage they need and within a budget they are comfortable with, by:
Listening- I take the time to Listen and focus on what is important to the client now, while helping build a vision for their future and keeping their plans on track.
Simplifying- I understand the client’s needs. Then I clarify and explain their options so they can make a decision with confidence
Guiding- I am committed to finding the best solutions for my clients’ families, businesses, and all they hold dear, including their assets, income, and future.
Supporting- I strive to be there during life’s major events and tough times to provide encouragement, perspective, and clarity
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to network with other agents, and also professionals in other industries, to collaborate and discover how we can best support each other and our communities.
I am always looking for referral partners as well, with real estate agents and brokers, mortgage lenders, businesses in automobile sales or body shops, and those that provide repair services to homes; such as roofers, plumbers, and construction companies that provide siding work, framing etc.
We offer very competitive rates on all our products. Call or email me to schedule a time that we can review your needs and work on a personal protection package built around your life and circumstances.
