Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Roland.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into photography didn’t start in a studio, it started at the local dirt bike tracks. I picked up a camera to capture my friends racing at local motocross events, drawn to the speed, grit, and raw energy of the sport. Those early days taught me how to anticipate moments, work fast, and tell a story in a split second. As I kept shooting, opportunities grew, and I found myself photographing larger races and even a few Red Bull events, sharpening my eye under real pressure and unpredictable conditions.
Over time, I realized what I loved most wasn’t just the action, it was capturing people at their best. That realization led me to transition from the chaos of the track to the control of the studio. The skills I built in motocross, lighting awareness, timing, and connecting with subjects translated naturally into portrait work.
For the past six years, I’ve specialized in professional studio portraits, focusing on clean, intentional imagery for individuals and brands. Whether it’s a headshot, branding session, or creative portrait, my goal is the same as it was at the track: capture authentic moments that feel powerful, confident, and real.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think anything is a smooth road, there are always challenges to navigate. With me it was battling my inner self and the doubt I had received from others.. people that would tell me I’m just a guy with a camera. So I have always had the weight on my shoulder to prove myself and show my worth and talent.
There have been a lot of friendships lost and gained but I feel that’s what happens with growth, not everyone sticks with you unfortunately. Lastly, reaching a point with your work that you can feel confident in. That is what I have been dealing with most recently is trying to build my confidence within myself and believing what I am capable of creating.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professional portrait photographer specializing in studio portraits, branding, and headshots for individuals and businesses. What I’m known for is creating clean, intentional images that feel confident, authentic, and never over-posed. I focus just as much on making people feel comfortable as I do on lighting and composition, because that’s where the best images come from.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me, many of them walk in saying they’re “not photogenic” and leave feeling confident and excited about how they look. What sets me apart is my background in action sports photography, which taught me how to read people quickly, adapt on the fly, and capture real moments under pressure. I bring that same energy into the studio, combining strong technical skills with a relaxed, collaborative experience that helps people show up as their best selves.
Also sometimes people tell me I am “Mr. Clean” lmao
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If you really want it, go get it. Don’t do it for others, do it for yourself!
Times can become challenging but you have to find that something that can help you push through the downs of your journey, most people tend to quit when things gets hard but the trick is to be the one that doesn’t quit.
