Today we’d like to introduce you to Blessings Abound.
Hi Blessings Abound, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Blessings Abound began in 2007 as a small, volunteer‑run thrift effort with one purpose: to generate sustainable funding for Kansas City–area nonprofits. For the first several years, the organization operated entirely through volunteer dedication, growing steadily as the community embraced the mission. By 2011, Blessings Abound expanded into a staffed operation, building a diverse team alongside its strong volunteer base.
Over time, the thrift store flourished, allowing Blessings Abound to dramatically increase its give‑back. In 2025 alone, the organization contributed $2 million to local partners, and to date has provided more than $14 million in support to nonprofits across the metro. What started as a simple idea – resell donated goods to help others – has grown into a major community resource that continues to uplift families through organizations like Operation Breakthrough, Pete’s Garden, Flourish Furniture Bank, HopeBuilders, and many more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Blessings Abound hasn’t had a perfectly smooth road. As thrift shopping has exploded across the Kansas City metro, the landscape has become more crowded and competitive. But unlike many of the newer, corporate‑style thrift operations, Blessings Abound has stayed rooted in its original purpose: giving back to the community.
One of our ongoing challenges has been balancing growth with mission. As demand increased, we had to expand our staff, strengthen our volunteer base, and refine our processes all while keeping our focus on supporting local nonprofits. We’re not driven by profit or shareholders; every decision comes back to how we can serve Kansas City better.
Even with the challenges, our commitment to community impact is what sets us apart. We’re proud to remain a nonprofit thrift whose success directly translates into dollars returned to organizations doing essential work across the metro.
As you know, we’re big fans of Blessings Abound. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Best – Kansas City has an incredible sense of community. People show up for each other, support local nonprofits, and take pride in helping their neighbors. The mix of small‑town warmth with big‑city creativity makes it a great place to serve.
Least – The growing need. Even with so many generous people and strong organizations, there are still families facing hardship, and the demand for support continues to rise.
