Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey DiCarlo.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I learned a lot from my mom and dad, who are entrepreneurs. I watched them manage businesses as I grew up. When I realized I wanted to try my hand at establishing my business, I felt more ready to go for it. I had previously done sitting gigs here and there, but didn’t start my business formally until March of 2018. I have always had a deep love for pets and for all animals. They cannot speak our language, but with an attuned ear, we can learn what they want to communicate. Beyond my joy for animals is my passion for serving a community of people. In the last 15 months, I have been mentored by my dog (Miles) ‘s sitter, Gwen. Before my mentorship with her, I studied training methods on Youtube and practiced them daily with my parent’s dog, Bosco.
I am repurposing those for other projects, too.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I was ready to hire an employee before the pandemic, going so far as to research the proper business practices to do so, acquiring more insurance, etc.
Instead of the second portion, can you put: The pandemic taught me a great deal about adapting to life’s inevitable curve-balls. I was able to continue sitting through the pandemic and instead of hiring employees, I sub-contracted a few people for individual jobs that I could not take. I got a full-time office job and was able to negotiate with my employer to have the flexibility in my schedule that would allow for my continuing to sit. It’s truly a passion and I’m grateful for what the adversity has taught me.
As you know, we’re big fans of Audrey Joy Premiere Pet Care. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?
I primarily sit for dogs and cats, as I live in the city. I have experience with horses, reptiles, rodents, birds, fish, and bunnies. I am open to all, as the principles I’ve learned can be translated across the animal kingdom. AJPPC’s core values are Integrity, Joy, Service, Compassion, and Humility.
What do you think about happiness?
“Happiness is an inside job” is a half-true statement. I also believe it’s necessary to be surrounded by loved-ones and doing things I love to do as well as serving those around me. Pet-sitting, caring for my clients’ pets, and becoming truly connected with them beyond just working for them has made me truly satisfied. Happiness is about acting in a grateful manner, regardless of any challenges. I’m far from perfect, but this has provided happiness for me. I remain grateful toward my family who has supported me the entire way.
