Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Nicholaides.
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Philadelphia Couples Therapy as a couples therapy practice of doctoral-level clinicians offering couples, individual, and adult family therapy in addition to couples and individual psychological assessments. I started as a solo practitioner and found that it was rare to find experts in couples therapy that I could confidently refer to. I also lacked the support I needed to do the hard work of couples therapy and wanted to build a supportive and collegial environment for other couples therapists.
After seven years, Philadelphia Couples Therapy is now a treatment team of couples experts. I’m proud to say that we are where couples all over the tristate area and much of the country go when other couples counseling hasn’t worked in the past.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started PCT right when the pandemic hit, which was serendipitously right when people most needed couples therapy. This meant that we had a steady stream of referrals from the get-go, and the company grew steadily from day one. I feel fortunate that incredible people have come to work at PCT, and we’ve grown into a collaborative, caring and inspired team of psychologists, postdocs, and pre-doctoral interns.
Of course, business ownership isn’t without its struggles- usually we’re needing to hire or needing to fill newly hired therapists, and both are a big job for me, but overall I’ve felt lucky to have built a strong company that’s done very well these seven years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re incredibly unique. I know of no other doctoral couples specialty group practice that also offers couples psychological assessments. Because we have all achieved the highest level of education in our field of therapy, and we have further specialized in couples therapy, we are uniquely poised to offer the highest level of clinical care to our clients.
I’d like readers to know that we serve 43 states including KY, and even when people start couples therapy wanting an in-person therapist they usually switch to virtual. We have found benefits to both virtual and in-person work, so it’s worth calling just to hear about our process. We offer a complimentary consultation with your potential clinician before starting work with us, and we sub-specialize in myriad issues all the way from ADHD to sexual trauma.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Prospective clients can contact us and we’ll talk them through which person on our team might be the best fit for them. Then we’ll set them up with a complimentary consultation, usually within the week. We are happy to chat about our services, which include couples, individual, and family therapy, several support groups, and couples psychological assessments.
