Meet Angela Martin of Travel Well Concierge LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Martin.

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wanderlust emerged in early childhood as I traveled multiple times a year with my family and local girl scouts troop. My interest in travel and cultural exploration grew significantly in adulthood after attending undergraduate college at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and after landing my first professional job as a high school teacher. During my nearly decade-long tenure as an educator, I found myself spending almost every major school break traveling or planning future travel for myself and others.

Seeing the world through various cultural lenses expanded my perspective, personal growth, and professional capacity. It fueled a desire for more time freedom and flexibility that I ultimately realized only entrepreneurship could bring.

After completing my doctorate in Educational Leadership, I left the classroom and took on new ventures in the corporate world as an Editorial Project Manager and later as an Executive Director for a startup nonprofit. Unknowingly at the time, the skills I had acquired from each of these professional experiences were honing my entrepreneurial bandwidth to launch what has become a successful travel business.

I envisioned a travel agency that offered much more than family vacations. I wanted an agency that could restore peace of mind to my clients and eliminate the stress often tied to travel planning.

I chose the name Travel Well Concierge to symbolize the importance of placing wellness at the center of travel and client relations. To me, traveling well means to move from one place to another in a way that fosters mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me, as I assume it is for many entrepreneurs, leading a successful business has not been a smooth road by any means. It has required a great deal of faith, grit, persistence, and discipline.

Marketing was an initial major struggle I encountered. I had to establish my presence in a competitive and saturated industry. I had to convey what set my agency apart from others while building clientele. I had to find a space where my services could be most beneficial and impactful.

Revenue growth started at a crawl as a built my client base one large group at a time. This was extremely difficult financially, as I could no longer rely on a steady paycheck as I had in previous jobs. I had to cut back significantly on the many “luxuries” I had grown accustomed to over the years. I had to convince myself that I was making a short-term sacrifice for the greater vision I had in mind. As can be expected, the financial struggles caused a great deal of stress, but it made me that much more determined to push harder.

As business began growing, I started feeling other pressures that come along with being a solopreneur. I found myself wearing multiple hats as a travel advisor, project manager, marketing and social media manager, customer relations specialist, tech support, website designer, and administrative assistant. I had to invest in software and programs to keep me organized and help automate as many of my daily responsibilities as possible. I consider this an in-between stage before business owners feel comfortable outsourcing work or have the financial capacity to hire additional workers.
