Meet Andrew Smith of Oh Hey Threads

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Smith.

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a youth pastor for over a decade. During that time, I’ve helped create t-shirts and other designs for youth groups and churches. As the designs got better over the years, other people would start asking if they could get one of the shirts we were making. I started to think maybe I could design shirts as a side gig, but it was nothing more than a thought.

A few years ago, a missionary sending agency, the International Mission Board, started bringing missionaries home due to a lack of funds to keep them in the countries they were serving. I wanted to do something, but I didn’t have the funds to help as much as I wanted to. So, Oh Hey Threads was born. I decided to start designing and selling t-shirts with the purpose of using a part of the profits to help send missionaries around the world to share the love of Jesus.

I knew I had to find a way to stand out in a world already full of t-shirts. I went on a mission to find some of the softest t-shirts that wouldn’t break anyone’s bank. I wanted to create affordable super soft t-shirts with great-looking designs that people would want to wear every day. We now have some of the softest shirts you will ever find for this price.

I was a little surprised that a lot of sales didn’t come in right away when I first launched. I had just assumed that putting out a good product would mean people would buy it, I was a little foolish in that way. I had to learn, and I’m still learning, how to effectively market and promote products to potential customers. Through the encouragement of others, I continued on and have now found more effective ways to sell items than just putting them on a website.

My genuine hope and goal for Oh Hey Threads are not to become a multi-million-dollar business, but that this would have an impact far greater than super soft t-shirts and hoodies. I want this business to make an impact on the world by using super soft t-shirts to share the love of Jesus.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest challenge was learning how to effectively reach potential customers and put our products in front of them.
