Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Joseph.
Hi Andrew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
With more than 25 years of experience in publishing, public relations, and brand development, Andrew Joseph has built a career around storytelling, meaningful relationships, and connecting creative people with opportunities that help their businesses grow.
As the founder of Andrew Joseph PR, a New York-based public relations agency specializing in the design and lifestyle industries, Andrew has spent more than 14 years representing interior designers, architects, artists, makers, and design-driven brands. His approach goes beyond traditional publicity, combining editorial strategy, creative thinking, and an extensive network of industry relationships to help clients build visibility and lasting recognition.
Throughout his career, Andrew has developed strong relationships with editors, journalists, designers, and industry leaders. He is also a contributing editor at aspire design and home, where his work allows him to explore the stories, personalities, and creative perspectives shaping the design world.
More recently, Andrew has expanded his work into fractional marketing and business development, helping clients identify new opportunities, build strategic partnerships, and make connections that translate into meaningful business growth. He believes that successful public relations is about more than getting people talking. It is about getting the right people talking and turning those conversations into opportunities.
Known for his creativity, candor, humor, and relationship-driven approach, Andrew brings both professional experience and a deeply personal commitment to the people and businesses he represents.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys life in New York’s Hudson Valley, where he finds inspiration in the surrounding landscape, his dogs, and the creative community around him.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started Andrew Joseph PR 14 years ago, I thought one of the great perks of owning my own business would be that I would never have to interview for a job again. As any small business owner or entrepreneur will tell you, the reality is quite the opposite. I interview for a job several times a day, every single day. Every new business conversation, every pitch, every client relationship is another opportunity to prove myself.
And you know what? I wouldn’t trade it.
It’s been an incredible ride, and I feel fortunate to have built a career doing something I genuinely love. Has it been challenging? Absolutely. Making payroll, keeping clients happy, navigating the ups and downs of running a business, and adapting to an ever-changing media landscape are all part of the journey. But so are the relationships, the creativity, the successes, the lessons learned, and the satisfaction of building something of my own.
People often ask me about the serpent in the Andrew Joseph PR logo. “Why a snake?”
There’s actually a great deal of meaning behind it.
The serpent is one of the oldest and most universal symbols in mythology. Across cultures, it represents life force, creative energy, transformation, renewal, and healing. As a snake sheds its skin, it becomes a powerful symbol of rebirth and reinvention.
For me, the parallel to public relations, entrepreneurship, and even life itself couldn’t be more fitting.
To remain relevant, we must constantly reinvent, reimagine, and recreate ourselves. We have to be willing to shed what no longer serves us, embrace change, and evolve with the world around us.
That’s the philosophy behind Andrew Joseph PR, and frankly, it’s the philosophy that has guided much of my own life.
Fourteen years later, I’m still learning, still evolving, still pitching, and yes, still interviewing for the job every single day.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve also been a contributing editor at aspire design and home for nearly a decade, something that gives me a unique perspective and, I believe, a competitive edge in the PR industry. It allows me to keep one foot firmly planted in the editorial world while the other is in public relations. I get to see firsthand how editors think, what makes a story compelling, how editorial decisions are made, and what separates a good pitch from a great one.
I also get to experience what it’s like to be on the receiving end of pitches from other publicists, which has been an invaluable education in itself! It keeps me curious, connected, and constantly learning. Most importantly, it reminds me that successful public relations isn’t simply about getting a client’s name in print. It’s about understanding what makes a story worth telling in the first place.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’ve always been something of an open book on social media. I share the good, the bad, the funny, the frustrating, and just about everything in between. Some might say I overshare, and perhaps I do! But I’ve never been particularly interested in presenting a perfectly polished version of myself or pretending that life, or running a business, is always easy.
I believe there’s value in being authentic, showing the messy parts alongside the successes, and allowing people to see the person behind the business. After all, we’re all human, and some of the most meaningful connections come from being willing to share our experiences, our challenges, and even our vulnerabilities. For me, that’s not just how I approach social media. It’s how I approach life.
