Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea DeJesus.
Hi Andrea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Andrea DeJesus, and I run A & H Farm — a family farm that’s grown far beyond anything I originally imagined.
We started simply, with a love for fresh food and animals, and a desire to give our kids a childhood rooted in hard work, dirt, and joy. What began with a small roadside stand and a few animals has turned into something that feeds both our community and our hearts.
Over the years, we expanded — more crops, more animals, a pumpkin patch, events, a market, and now even fun twists like pickle lemonade and themed festivals. Our goal has always been to create something meaningful: a place where families can connect, where kids can see where their food comes from, and where our community can gather around what’s good and real.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. Every season brings something new — challenges, growth, and joy. Today, A & H Farm is more than just a farm. It’s an experience, a community hub, and a piece of who we are.
And we’re still growing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I think that’s true for most things worth doing.
Running a farm means dealing with the unpredictable: weather, pests, equipment breaking down at the worst time, and crops that sometimes just don’t do what you hoped. Add to that the challenge of running a business while raising a family, and you quickly learn to be flexible, creative, and resilient.
One of the hardest parts has been learning how to grow not just food, but a whole experience — and how to do that sustainably, both financially and emotionally. We’ve had seasons where the rain wouldn’t stop, where staffing was hard, or where we questioned if we were doing the right thing.
But those struggles also taught us a lot. They reminded us why we started — for our family, for our community, and for the joy that comes from doing something real. Each challenge helped shape us, and even though it’s never been perfect, we’ve built something we’re proud of — and we keep learning every step of the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of A & H Farm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At A & H Farm, we’re more than just a place to buy produce — we’re a place to make memories.
We’re a working family farm offering fresh, local fruits and vegetables, a farm market, and seasonal events that bring people together. We’re especially known for our pick-your-own pumpkin patch in the fall, fresh sweet corn and peaches in the summer, and fun themed festivals like Pickle Fest and Peach Week. Our lemonade and unique flavored drinks have become something of a local favorite too!
What sets us apart is that everything we do is rooted in authenticity — we grow it, we make it, and we share it with heart. We work hard to keep things real, accessible, and family-friendly. Whether it’s a child’s first time petting a goat, a family picking out the perfect pumpkin, or someone trying pickle lemonade for the first time — we want it to be fun, meaningful, and memorable.
We’re most proud that our brand reflects who we really are. People trust us because they see us working right alongside our team. We care deeply about community, connection, and making sure everyone who visits feels welcomed.
We want readers to know: if you’re looking for fresh food, honest work, and a fun place to bring the family — we’d love to have you out at the farm.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always outside — barefoot, curious, and constantly finding ways to stay busy. I’ve always loved animals and getting my hands dirty, even when I didn’t realize farming would become my path. I was independent, driven, and maybe just a little bit stubborn (which turns out to be pretty helpful when you run a farm!).
I loved organizing things, being creative, and building stuff from the ground up — whether it was a project, a plan, or something I dreamed up. Looking back, a lot of the things I enjoyed then are still with me now: working hard, figuring things out as I go, and finding joy in simple, meaningful moments.
As a teenager, I was sure of one thing — I was never going to work on a farm. I saw firsthand how hard it was: the long hours, the years where money was tight or nonexistent, the constant uncertainty. I was headed to college to do something different — something “easier” — and I fully intended to never look back.
But then I got married and had kids. And as they started to grow up away from the farm, I began to realize just how much my own childhood on the farm had shaped me. The work, the space, the animals, the freedom — and even the struggles — gave me lessons and memories that stuck. I started to see the farm through a different lens. My parents didn’t do it for money; they did it because they loved it. And that love left a lasting impact.
That’s when it hit me: I wanted my kids to grow up with those same values — hard work, connection to the land, appreciation for food and animals, and pride in something real. So, I came back to Kansas and started my own farm. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
