Hi, Andalyn; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was in the fashion industry for 15 years and got laid off because of the pandemic. I started learning to work with leather and make leather handbags in 2018. I have known how to sew since I was around 12. When the pandemic hit, my husband and I decided I could stay home and work on my leather handbags. Then, it turned into dog accessories. I wanted all the accessories to match, and I wanted them to be luxurious/fancy, fashionable and functional, and last many years.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was finding the right leather and discovering what designs worked and what didn’t. And just because someone else did it one way does not mean it’s the only way. I went through some trial And error in the design process to figure out what looks and works the best in the leather and hardware I chose. When doing pop-ups, it was about how to display my items. What worked and what didn’t? I would say I’m still struggling with marketing and Social Media.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I design and make premium leather dog accessories. I can custom-make it to fit your dog. My harnesses are custom-fit only. Dogs are not a one-size-fits-all. I created my 4-in-1 leash, and this is the first time anyone else has anything like it. I have some beautiful colors to choose from. I can also mix and match leather lining, leather, and hardware. I can embellish if the client wants.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
I have a background in production and design. So I already knew how to cost my products. I’ve met many who didn’t know how and would lose money and end up closing their business.
