Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaru Son.
Hi Amaru, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve gotten started with the music by my mother being an artist (J. love) and being introduced to my homie that’s also an artist (Royce J) and they were the two that got me to really start making music in early April 2016.
I learned a lot from them when it comes to recording, mixing/mastering, engineering and even producing songs. Took what they both taught me & made those things into my own sound.
Grinded really hard on my craft & sound + not giving up on myself. Once I’ve learned the ropes & that’s what initially got me to where I am now. Consistency is key.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was smooth sailing from 2016 to 2019 but as soon as COVID-19 came around 2020-2021 were the worst years for me to focus on my career. Relationship, spiritual, mental, & physically it was very hard for me to maintain everything that was happening at once.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a musical artist, singer, rapper, writer, engineer & producer.
I’m virtually known for my singles called “Lost & Found, L.A., Kirito’s Revenge & MiNi VaN.”
I am mainly proud of my progression as an artist. If anyone knows me personally they’ll know that I take artistry VERY seriously more than anything else when it comes to the entertainment industry or making songs.
The fact that I can do a lot of this on my own by being myself 100% in a city that is not so huge on wanting to become more versatile with the music scene here or with its sound & seeing a person like myself be very successful in those areas by doing so & also supporting other Kansas City artists in the process that’s what separates me the most.
Expanding my own horizon. I don’t pay so much attention to the hate either if there is any. Not everyone is going to like the music you make or the things that you do & everyone has to accept that reality.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I don’t want to go too much into detail on the risk-taking subject cause it’s all different for everyone to experience & express what their own version of risk-taking is, but I could say that people won’t get far if they don’t take risks in their career.
Whether they’ll learn from them or gain some type of experience it’s always good to get that type of experience under your belt.
