Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Murray.
Hi Allison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I worked for a startup nonprofit a few years ago; in that role, I led much of the planning and execution of large annual fundraising events. In a subsequent role, I planned and executed customer-focused, community-oriented company events. I learned a ton from these experiences about vendor management, creating a natural timing and flow to the event day, and making sure every detail was in place to meet everyone’s expectations.
In 2024, a coworker was planning her wedding and mentioned the need for a day-of coordinator. I offered to do the job without hesitation. Even though I had never coordinated a wedding before, I knew the skills I had learned from nonprofit and corporate events were transferrable to weddings, so I was confident I could do the job well.
I also wanted to coordinate my coworker’s wedding to find out if I enjoyed wedding coordination–and I did! I had a blast running all the behind-the-scenes details and making sure the couple, their family, and guests all had a great time.
The DJ at that wedding was a seasoned professional who had worked with a number of wedding planners and coordinators in the Kansas City area. He could hardly believe I was working my first wedding, and he gave me the compelling feedback that I was as good or better than some of the seasoned wedding professionals he had worked with.
After some consideration–particularly that input from the DJ and from other event professionals–I decided to launch Allison Murray Events!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest obstacles has simply been getting out the word about my new business. I’ve worked through some trial and error when it comes to marketing my services and found that networking with other wedding vendors is one of the best ways to receive new client referrals. Plus, it’s a lot of fun getting to know those vendors and promote their services!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Allison Murray Events provides day-of event wedding to couples in the Kansas City metro area. My day-of coordination services include:
1. An in-person consultation so the couple can cast their vision for the wedding day
2. A spreadsheet template for easy planning, organization, and communication
3. Communication and planning with all vendors 4-6 weeks prior to the wedding
4. A final venue walk-through to confirm all logistics
5. Running the wedding rehearsal
6. Day-of coordination with all vendors
7. Solving any problems that arise the day of the wedding
I’m known for meticulous attention to detail, putting out fires so the couple doesn’t even know about them, and executing all of the behind-the-scenes details so that the couple, their bridal party, family, and guests can be fully present.
I’m also available for planning and executing fundraising events.
How do you think about happiness?
I feel happiest and most satisfied when I know I’m serving others–making their lives better, and making the world a better place.
I love serving through wedding coordination because I love marriage, and I count it a privilege to help couples start their marriage journey with a memorable, stress-free day. I always feel so much happiness as I watch couples celebrate during their reception: seeing them celebrate their freedom, joy, and togetherness with the most important people in their lives is always such a highlight of the day!
My husband, Chad, and our dog, Penny, make me happy on a regular basis–they bring so much joy to my life!
I’m also happy spending time in nature, taking in the awe-inspiring beauty of the creation around me.
