Meet Alex Kirkland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Kirkland.

Alex Kirkland

Hi Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started writing in late 2021. I had unfortunate health issues (cervical vertigo and panic attacks) that brought me back to Kansas City from working on the hemp farm in Colorado. I never expected to start writing as a profession, but after my time in the CBD industry, I figured I had a story to tell. So I put pen to paper, and 128,000 words later, I had my first memoir, WOLVES OF HEMP STREET. From there, I signed up for Medium and have been blogging there ever since, honing in on my craft. I have several books in the works at the moment as well.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Not at all. It’s been pretty bumpy. Health issues, monetary issues (hospital bills and self-publishing fees), writer’s block, you name it. Something will always stand in your way, but you must overcome it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I’m a writer. I never went to school for it and was never great in English class, yet here I am. That’s one thing that differentiates me from other, more classically trained and taught writers. My experience working on the hemp farm is also slim to none. Who else has written about that period? Maybe one. Lastly, my upcoming memoir, about my anxiety and vertigo struggles, is a very personal and unorthodox journey with mental health. It doesn’t fit into the normal “box” that people try to put anxiety in.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Consistency. Courage. Always showing up and never backing down. Faith.
