Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Brown.
Hi Abbey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Topeka in a family of entrepreneurs. I went to college at Kansas State University, launching my first company in college. After college, I working in corporate America for 5 years before the barn went up for sale in 2016. My family purchased the barn and we did extensive renovations turning it into the event venue you see today. Our grand opening was in 2017 and we now host about 200 events a year. In 2020, I launched The Milestone Market which is a micro event space that also houses event rentals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The best part of entrepreneurship is the journey. As you can imagine, owning an event business in 2020 was a wild ride. We wanted to serve our couples to the best of our ability but also keep the safety of our community in the forefront of our mind. Together, our team and clients worked to overcome the challenges that the pandemic threw our way by getting creative. We launched a “wedding on wheels” program where we brought our tables/chairs/tents to the backyards of our couples. We also created a “Bridal Show To Go” box that brought all the best things about a bridal fair to the doorstep of local couples.

The Brownstone is a premier wedding and event venue in Topeka, KS. We host celebrations for all of life’s greatest moments including weddings and private events. We are known for our outstanding customer service. When you are a Brownstone couple, you are a part of our family. The history of our barn makes our venue stand out. The building is 90 years old with the original architecture still in place. It has lived a lot of lives as a functioning dairy barn, antique shop and now a wedding and event venue.
We not only provide the space to hold your celebration, we also have rentals for your event and design services to help make the planning process as seamless as possible.

Most people would find it surprising that we have over 20 employees on staff at all times. It takes a lot of man/woman-power to pull off over 200 events a year. We provide training and education to our staff to keep them engaged and at the top of all major trends in the industry.
