Switchback Outdoor Safety began in early 2018 with a simple goal—help people explore and work off-road safely. Founded by Aaron Paris, a professional safety leader and certified off-road instructor, Switchback was born from a blend of tactical training, vehicle recovery experience, and a passion for responsible adventure. What started as small, local recovery demonstrations quickly grew into formal training sessions covering off-road driving, winching, and recovery techniques.
Over time, Switchback evolved from a side project into a nationally recognized training organization. Drawing from Aaron’s background in law enforcement, corporate safety, and I4WDTA-certified instruction, the company built a reputation for teaching real-world recovery methods, risk management, and safe operations in the field.
Partnerships with leading brands like ActionTrax, Safe-Xtract, Midland Radio, and Hi-Lift, along with appearances at major events such as MOORE Expo Overland of America, and Big Iron Overland Rally, helped solidify Switchback’s position as a trusted name in off-road safety education.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The process has not always been smooth. There are always ups and downs such as COVID. During COVID sales were better but training was difficult to maintain as there were lots of restrictions and people generally being cautious.

• Advanced Tactical and Law Enforcement Training – over a decade as a Police Officer, SWAT Operator, and Sniper, developing crisis decision-making and high-risk vehicle operation skills.
