Marcus Moore shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Marcus, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I definitely do. Every time I complete a commission for someone and I see their eyes light up with joy, and wonder. Illustrating someone’s idea/nostalgia into a physical representation of their imagination and to see the excitement they have from my work is an honor. It is one of the reasons I LOVE to create.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marcus Moore I also go by BluBoiArt, and I have a true love/passion for drawing. I do it everyday, and have been for years. If you can imagine it I can bring it to life. I pride myself on ensuring I achieve the perfect illustration, design, logo, etc. that my client will be proud of. I primarily do comic book/anime art, but I also do logos, graphic designs and concept art. I am currently working on my own comic that’s been brewing for years. His name is Force, and his story is my contribution for representation in the indie comic scene. I am also attending various comic conventions to show more of the world my art and passion.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I would say when I started skateboarding with my best friend Tony. Skateboarding taught me freedom, and being a black kid skateboarding in my environment I was looked down on. BUT, I never wavered, and kept skating because it was fun. That taught me you have to be happy being yourself, and doing what you like. One can never truly be happy wearing a mask just to be accepted by everyone else. I learned that ALOT of people are followers and fear being themselves. Few refuse to deviate from whats “normal” and “trending” so they can be accepted by everybody else. So they can feel like they apart of something. I would rather be happy doing the things that put a smile on face. Drawing, Muay Thai, video games and anime are a few of my favorite things. And it ain’t changing lol.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep your head up, always move forward. Failures happen, but understand that there is a lesson in each loss. They will make you stronger physically and mentally. Have faith in yourself for you have potential for greatness. Also…trust the words of your elders, they have great wisdom.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Artist who I admire and study. It’s impossible to grow if you only look to yourself for inspiration. It’s a good habit to look at other artist techniques to see what they do, and how they create. I have learned many skills that I have turned into my own by studying artist like Olivier Coipel, Alex Ross, James Harren, Daniel Warren, Stuart Immonen, etc. You never have to perfectly mimic what you see. Merely find the parts you love and try to alter it and place your style with it.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Not finishing my own comic. Finishing a story for a black hero i started back in 2006. I would also regret not pursuing my dream of living comfortably from the art I create.
