Today we’d like to introduce you to Winter Warren.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a little girl I’ve always knew that I would be a teacher, I remember doing all my little cousin’s hair and sitting them down to play school I had my Big Chief notebook and my pencils ready for them daily and this very day in time they will bring that up at every family gathering and we all laugh about it. I can honestly say that til this vey moment teaching stills brings me the most happiness as it did when I was a child. I lost my oldest son to asthma at the age of 10 years old I was devastated and thought my life was over and the more days that I was absent from my class it seemed the more strength I was able to mustard up and push through and that was the very moment I knew that this was my calling I knew that I was made just for EDUCATION! I tell my children and parents that I need them, more than they need me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ohhh it’s been far from smooth, it’s a daily challenge with myself I often find myself asking ” Am I doing enough” ” What can I do better” ” Am I reaching every child and family like I want to?” I constantly struggle with myself on things like that and each and every time I close another school year with visible growth from my students and the biggest smiles on their parents face it’s that very moment that I know every struggle that I endure daily is well worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an PreSchool teacher at Kansas City Kansas Public School I’ve been in education for 25 years. What I think sets me apart from others is the dedication, the hard work and the abundance of love that I have for what I do daily. It’s not a job or my career choice for me It’s what brings me happiness. Over my years in education I have planted seeds in children that have not forgot about me until this day. I have had some of my students reach out to me that are now 11,14 and older that still remembers me as their teacher and often tell me I’m the best teacher they’ve ever had, or how much the miss me. Those are the things that set me apart from others. I think that’s a really big deal to hear those things from a child that was 4 or 5 years of age and now older tell you those things it warms my heart and gives me even more conformation that I’m doing THE WORK!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m always up to learn new things and or give advice to new educators and learn from all educators, I takes a village.
