Life & Work with Tia Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Green.

Hi Tia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I always had a passion for baking since I was little. From watching TV shows of bakers to literally watching my mom bake our birthday cakes in any design we wanted.

It was so inspiring to me and I knew I wanted to learn to do that. As I grew up, I still had that passion in me but chose a different route in Accounting instead. As it was hard to find accounting jobs, I transitioned into Data Entry positions and my friend actually started making cakes as a self-taught cake artist.

From then, it was inspiring to me all over again haha! However, cakes were not specifically my thing. But I did start to make cupcakes for my church, brownies, and even cinnamon rolls sometimes. And I fell in love again and that’s when I decided I wanted to start a business and that is where I am right now. I’m in the beginning stages of starting my business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has been tough, as I am still pretty new currently. More tough in the beginning, getting your business out there and trying to promote is hard, you definitely have to be very dedicated.

There was a time I even decided to stop trying and just work my regular job because I had no customers and no one seem interested. But later I realized it’s the step in every beginning business and I just have to keep promoting and I then slowly started getting orders.

Even 3 in one month was so much for me because it was nothing before and I was so excited to fulfill those orders.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I actually make custom treats such as cupcakes, brownies, and chocolate-covered strawberries and I am learning how to make macaroons which I am extremely excited to do! I am mostly known for my letterbox strawberry boxes which are actually one of the ones I am most proud of!

I made a “MOM” strawberry letterbox for my mother’s birthday and it was the first I ever made of that and it came out beautifully, thanks to God! I really believe that all of us businesswomen and men try our hardest to please our customers and put as much dedication into our business to have it thrive and grow continuously.

So it would be hard to say what sets me apart from others, but one thing I can say that makes me feel special and at a great advantage is that I am self-taught, and I continue to learn more every day through my mistakes. But it no longer will bring me down, it will make me more encouraged to keep trying until I perfect it. No matter what.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me means you accomplishing whatever goals you set for yourself. Proving others wrong who didn’t believe in you that you could do it. Be happy with your creations. That is all success to me.
