Life & Work with Terrence Hayes of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence Hayes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started with a love for making people laugh and bringing people together through entertainment. Like many creators, I faced setbacks, disappointments, and moments where people doubted my vision. Instead of allowing those obstacles to stop me, I used them as motivation.
Over the years, I built The Petty Murphy Project into a platform that gives voices to comedians, entertainers, entrepreneurs, and creators who deserve to be heard. What began as interviews and conversations evolved into a growing media brand reaching audiences around the world.
Today, that vision has expanded into Power 97.5 KC – The Kansas City Comedy Network, a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week comedy and entertainment platform designed to give comedians, podcasters, and content creators a home where they can showcase their talents. My goal is simple: create opportunities for others while continuing to build something that changes the entertainment landscape.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been building something from the ground up with limited resources. There were times when funding was scarce, support was inconsistent, and doors that I expected to open remained closed.
Another challenge was overcoming skepticism. Many people see the finished product but don’t see the countless hours spent networking, producing content, learning new skills, and investing in a vision before anyone else believed in it.
I’ve also faced personal setbacks and moments of self-doubt. However, every challenge taught me resilience, patience, and perseverance. Those experiences shaped not only my business but also who I am as a person. The obstacles became lessons that prepared me for larger opportunities.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a comedian, media personality, interviewer, producer, and entrepreneur. I specialize in creating entertaining conversations that allow guests to tell their stories authentically while connecting with audiences in meaningful ways.
Through The Petty Murphy Project, I have interviewed a diverse range of guests and built a platform that reaches listeners in dozens of countries around the world. What sets me apart is my ability to blend humor, storytelling, and real-life experiences into content that is both entertaining and relatable.
The accomplishment I’m most proud of is creating opportunities for others. Whether it’s helping a comedian gain exposure, giving a podcaster a platform, or launching Power 97.5 KC, my greatest achievement is building something bigger than myself that can benefit future generations of creators.
