Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Nelson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started as a wine rep in Kansas over 25 years ago and moved into management for a local distributor then moved to Denver and was a wine rep and supplier rep for a few years. Moved back to KC and was a wine rep when an opportunity came along to purchase a liquor store.
21 years ago we bought a very small store of about 1200 sq feet, immediately moved it into 2800 sq feet and through 3 more moves, we are now 13,000 square feet. We didn’t have a lot of money just blind ambition and built our inventory over the years to meet our customers’ needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not having enough money is always the issue, expanding as quickly as we could and then being forced out of the center we were in for almost 20 years and moving into a new center all have had challenges.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
we are a retail liquor store and sole proprietorship. we like to set ourselves apart with professionalism, trained employees, and excellent customer service.
I am proud that in 21 years we have been able to expand 5 times from 1200 sq ft to over 13,000 and we have the most amazing employees and managers.
We listen to the market and our customers to provide them with the best selection and prices and customer service
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
when I was crowned king of my 7th-grade class.
